No mention so far of the solar eclipse today (for those who can view it). Looks like zillions are descending on Niagara Falls and other locations in Ontario and NYS etc.

I think they are estimating 3 million people. I live out by Lake Erie, and every road that goes down to the lake has been closed.

I have a pair of "eclipse glasses" but not planning to actually look, will project image on a surface with pinhole or something. Otherwise I'll just experience the oddness of dark in the middle of day, although I hear birds and animals may show some unusual behaviour.

I imagine this is a WFH day for many, all the better to keep people off the roads, especially the more distractable types.

Ottawa is not quite in the "totality" band, and hopefully not too many clouds move in as predicted.

I'm in New York City.
The tourists are worse than usual.
Oooo.... Solar eclipse. Big fat hairy deal.

Direct path here too. Most schools are closed, and most parks are set for a heavy influx of tourists.
I blocked my schedule so I can avoid the inevitable traffic now nightmare.

Public Service Announcement --

During today's Eclipse,
I will be banging loudly
on an empty 55 gallon drum,
to scare away the evil Moon
from attempting to
swallow our Sun.

It's always been successful
in the past, so why take a chance.

You're WELCOME ! ! !

Get out your LEPs and HIDs and shine them at the moon to scare it away! Now.... Where's my Sam's Club HID? Just kidding guys.... I know exactly where it is. Underneath the kitchen table.

I'm pretty sure there's an old vid. of one on YouTube we can all watch, minus the glasses. Then rewind it, and watch it again!

I saw something about this type of shadows. But I thought it was a bit of photo editing. I figured with how many hundred thousand kilometers the moon is away, you would not get that type of pattern. Turns out, I was wrong.
