I was on the lookout for a decent, inexpensive, flashlight that one could stash about the house, in a travel kit, or in a vehicle, not necessarily as a primary light source but more as a handy tool to get to my (expensive) primary light source should one be caught in the dark. I have good lights and a headlamp but they're not always right next to me and when the lights go out it's dark here as we're rural, there's no ambient light aside from what Ma Nature provides.

I stumbled upon the KOOTEK XPE-Q5 LED, which got a very good write up here; The Best Cheap Flashlight (Under $10 and Crazy Bright) (link posted for convenience as I am in no way affiliated with that site nor am I promoting it.) Seems it performed well, especially when using a 14500 3.6 v battery, which I know absolutely nothing about.

Thoughts? Experience with these lights? Also, are 14500 worth it? I have and use Eneloops already.
