I was waiting in a line beside a battery recycle tube with only 1-1/2 inches in the bottom. Salvaged was a set of four Energizer 2300mAh NiMH. They charge normally and appear to still have good life left.
Recently I snagged an Energizer Ultimate Lithium 9v (L522). It sits around 9.2v no load, drops to around 7v under fair load (60mA), still somewhat good. These must be pricey, have never bought one.
