My current lights and my next lights...or at least the ones I have in mind once I save a bit of cash.
I only have 6 lights right now. The Olight s35, 4sevens mini 123, 3 Quarks and a Novatac Storm (Man I hate that thing...Amazing switch and interface, but poor reliability and the most unusable angry blue tint ever).

The Olight s35 is a decent light. The emitter tint is really green compared to my Quarks. The battery carrier will be hard and expensive to replace.

I love my Quarks :) ...But the spare boot kit is still out of stock on their website :(

My Gf has the Olight TC15 ss. She loves it...I like it...I like the stainless steel, but cant stand that low, med, strobe interface.

So, Ive done some research and come up with

Fenix TK41 , 8 AA's ...I like that...and everybody seems to like this light.

Zebralight. I was thinking the SC50 (1 AA) but I think I just want anything Zebralight. Looks like an amazing manufacturer and all of their lights look amazing. I love how they offer different tints...but pretty much everything is out of stock on their website.:(

4Sevens the new preon 2 penlight looks pretty cool, plus I have a bunch of aaa eneloops that I need to use, and no aaa light.

One of those ultrafire ebay cheapies...I want to try one and maybe take it apart or something.

Im kind of in aa battery mode right now.

Any thoughts or suggestions.?

What’s important to me?
MADE IN USA
Quality of construction/Durability
Uses common AA Batteries (I know my CR123 lights are superior, but 80% of all batteries sold are AA, therefore BOB gets AAs)
Usable lumen/long burn times: I sure like to play with my 500Lm+ lights, but 100-200 is far more usable.

Option #1
Four Sevens Quark Pro QP2A-X (280 Lm)

Option #2
Surefire E2L AA Outdoorsman (80 Lm)

It’s a surefire, every SF I have even the cheap ones are great. My first in incandescent with only 60 Lm could through that beam like an NFL quarterback. Upgraded to an LED head & that light scared a black bear away during a BSA camp I went along on with my boy.

Will another head fit the E2L, such as a SF KX2C (200 Lm) or a SF KM2 IR Head (150 Lm) & if so will they only work with 1450 3.7v battery or will they work albeit lower Lm with 1.2v AA? What other heads will fit (VME, Malkoff E2)?

Option #3
Malkoff Devices MDC HA 1AA (110 Lm @ 1.2v/400 Lm @ 3.7v)

Option #4
Valiant Concepts VME2AA Twisty Body & E VME Head & M31W Drop-In (130 Lm @ 1.2v/210 Lm @ 1.8-3.3v)

Seems like a simplistic durable light, would prefer a tail switch though.

Option #5
Oveready Moddoolar TL1450-S body w/? Head

From what I have read great quality but not sure what head/drop in to use with it?

Option #6 :ohgeez:
Something I am missing or have not considered, i.e. Peak, Fenix, etc. Please feel free to set me straight

I just spent quite a while trying to read, or at least "scan," all of the posts on this forum about the MH-C9000.

Most of them are fairly old (about five years ago), so I am wondering how much (if anything) has changed since then?

1) Has the C9000 been improved, or at least, have all "known issues" been resolved?

From my reading, I get the picture that some would argue that there are better chargers, but the C9000 still receives very high marks as an "Analyzer/Charger."

2) Is the "La Crosse Technology BC-900" still its nearest competitor?

Relatively large size doesn't bother me (I've got other "decent" chargers that are quite compact.) Frankly, I would be interested in an even larger version, if it could analyze 6-8 batteries at a time.

Currently, I am only interested in AA & AAA sized NiMH batteries.

I have a quantity of old Panasonic "Evolta" batteries that need to be analyzed and sorted (some probably need recycling).

I am currently investing in a fairly large quantity of "black" Eneloop Pros, and I am thinking I may want to start trying to take better care of them.

All thoughts and comments welcome.

Good Morning-

Looking for an outdoor motion detector based light (IP66). I have been using some Defiant and then putting the wet rated Home Depot 5000K bulbs (1100 lumens each) in them and been quite happy.

It is not enough light, as right now I have 6 bulbs aimed. For the front yard (and I'm running out of bulbs) I'd rather get an integrated unit.

There are 1900 lumen units at Lowes / HD, with 3 heads, but I'd like to get a few more lumens out of them... say around 4000.

So does anyone know of a brand out there that has this?

My interest in flashlights started earlier this year and I've acquired:
- Fenix's PD32UE, TK75 and TK22
- Foursevens' Quark Mini ML-X, Preon Pen and Quark Pro QPL
- Nitecore's MH25 and TM26
- eagletac's G25C2

(I surprised myself: the Mini ML-X on the lowest setting (3ish lumens) is my most used light... I thought I'd 'want' huge lumen output)

I can't bring myself to purchase a surefire: I feel as though I'd be buying a 'brandname' and not a better light. Which leads me to my question:

Does anyone have any experience with Lumen Factory's Seraph?

Thanks.

Hi,
I am a beginner of underwater photography/ filming while having over 4 years experience in DSLR.
I am now looking for a economic underwanter light source for photography/ filming and found several possible options below.
It would really wonderful to have some comments/reviews over these torches or any possible options within my buget.
Really appreciate if you can help!!!
My budget: around 150 USD, maximum 250 USD if it worths

Option 1: Archon D11V or D10U
D11V:
http://www.linkdelight.com/015133-AR...ght-860LM.html
D10U:
http://www.linkdelight.com/015132-AR...ing-Light.html
They appear to be a proper video light source because they have a wider beam angle, but i am having a hard time to find any credible review on internet.
Some even said that manufacture quality is poor and it might leak during diving.
Has anyone actually tried this torch?

Option 2: Ferei W151B
http://www.ecpush.com/product-underw...eam-w151b.html
It seems more people are using this brand and most of the comments are possitive.
What i an worrying is if I can use this torch as as assistant light source for underwater photography/ filmimg since it has a much narrower beam angle.
Has anyone tried this torch?
Really appreciate if you can offer some useful advises.
Thank you!

Hello everyone.

I'm working on documenting the history and evolution of SureFire handheld flashlights since their inception. Unfortunately, searching through old catalogs, advertisements, and my own (limited) knowledge isn't enough to complete this project but I know there is enough knowledge here on CPF to make this a reality.

I will be using this thread to post what information I have accumulated so far and then revising it based upon your input. To the extent possible I want to rely upon documented sources but I know we will have to use people's memories to fill in some of the blanks. Please share if you spot any errors or can help fill in the blanks!

We will start off with the P series lights and their predecessors. I'm really needing some help with the "SureFire 6" and the 6C. I know nothing about these earliest models but thanks to donn I have a little something to start with.
SureFire 6

The SureFire 6 was the first lithium battery powered flashlight produced by SureFire. The SureFire that started it all.

I love this little light. Got 2. It runs 3x Xm-L on a 26650. These cheapies built my enthusiasm for LEDs.

I did trouble shooting on all parts by replacing parts with those from the good one...it's the internal wired unit that holds the 3 leds. Every other possibility has been eliminated. I even stashed it in the Freezer overnight....no luck.

Here is a photo showing pretty realistically how it looks. I may have to resize this. In the photo the light is ON but has about 1/50th output or less (not close to 'moonl-light')

You can see the striations in the emitter with your naked eye (of course the light would otherwise be blinding in a properly functioning light)

Can anyone tell me what might be wrong? I'm ordering another from T-Mart for $50 but if there's a fix...such as trying to 'RE-SET' it I'll try that.

This HAS HAPPENED BEFORE but I've let it sit and it recovers.

Can I 'Jump' it with reverse polarity current? or higher voltage?

I'm 90% convinced it's toast but others may know of an 'easy fix'...These little buggers are BRIGHT !

Couldn't live without it now....these go on my bike (2 at a time) and are FIERCE.

Thanks in advance.

:)

Hi!

I've built a quad copter and want to add a LED light to it which illuminates the ground the quad is flying over to ease navigation in the dark.
I am looking for a bright LED with an aspherical lens on it. Ideally it'd be ready for 12V (5V or anything else below 12V is okay, too).
The whole setup has to be light, so attaching a dedicated flashlight with a big clunky aspherical lens is out of the question.

Color reproduction does not have to be the very best, cooling is probably not an issue either as the LED will get cooled by the surrounding blowing air.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Found the TerraLUX TLE-6EX (MiniStar 5) bulb at Battery Junction. 140 Lumens. Took a little modification, but it works great!

They advertise that the bulb is virtually unbreakable, but I managed to break the fisrt one I bought. Very happy with it now!

Hi all. A quick question: I am aware of the potential dangers of mixing Li-ion batteries of different age, charge state and capacities, but do you think mixing, for example, fresh ET 2500mAh and Trustfire 2500mAh (both protected) would be as risky? What about the same brand and capacity but a later manufacturing batch?

Thanks!

I have a 25 foot Maple tree that I have lit with 2000 traditional mini lights for the last 7 years, and decided to switch to LED this season for the electric use savings and durability reasons. Planning on using 20 sets of 100 count LED strings, which are 34 foot long each, made with 22 awg wiring, and consume 9.6 watts per string according to the tags on each string.

Here is my question, according to the instructions on the tag,I can safely connect up to 210 watts worth of strings end to end{21 strings, which would be 202 watts}.....however,if one connected 21 strings end to end,you end up with 714 feet of 22awg wire, which to me would sound like quite a huge distance to travel without generating massive voltage drop? Am I missing something here?
