I came across this product listing featuring a LG 2600maH rated 18650 in the What's New section of the batteryspace.com website.
The pdf spec link at batteryspace is an old link.
I couldn't find any info on these 2600maH cells at the LGChem.com site when I looked there.

Has anybody actually tried one of these or have any hard data on them?

No, but Sanyo began making 2600mAh 18650 cells in April 2005!

While I'm delighted to see 18650 capacities creep up to 2400 (LG) and 2600 mAh (LG and Sanyo), I'd be more delighted if these cells were protected. The highest capacity of protected 18650 cells has held steady at 2200mAh for about 9 months (LG, AW, Pila, a couple others).

I'll stick with my Wolf Eyes 2000mAh 168A cells until protected 18650 or 168A cells reach 2400mAh!

I have been waiting for them to be back in stock and just ordered 2 of them and a charger today.

After I get them and try them out a bit, I am going to send my U2 and the 2600's to chevrofreak to have him do runtime and output testing on them. He makes excellent graphs out of the data and also has an integrating sphere to chart the lumen output. Keep an eye out for it in the near future.:)

They could put protection circuits in a 2600mAh LG18650 but then it would longer and wouldn't be a 18650 anymore.

They are pushing the limits in cell design. That's why the new Pila cells for Surefire lights won't chamber in some lights! Even the newer high capacity AA's are a bit longer and a bit fatter too!

The Samsung's cell measures 64.8mm x 18.1mm. Would 64.8mm leave enough room (2.2mm) to install a protection circuit? That would make the cell the same length as a Wolf Eyes 168A.

As for the 18.1mm diameter, I suspect that that's before the cell is wrapped with a label. But even wrapped, the Samsung would be no fatter than a 168A.

I have no idea what room is needed for a circuit. In the past, I had to remove one of the double wrappers on a old Pila 168S to get it into a Aleph battery pack, I think!

The newer SureFire U2's have a anti-rattle sleeve that causes problems from what I've read too. Some years ago Duracell set me a brand new AA MagLite because some of their AA's wouldn't fit in a older AA MagLite.

I just received the 2600mah LG 18650 cells and charger today from BatterySpace.com and plan to do a little testing of my own before sending the U2 and all to have data collected and charted by chevrofreak. Stay tuned.:)
