CATEYE LUMINUX 14500?

I have a CatEye Luminux micro halogen light, and I want to modify it... The JC bi pin 12v bulbs would probably work. I'm thinking of using 4 14500 batteries giving me 14.4 volts approx.. Is this a bad idea with a plastic cover lens? Would I be better off with LED?

Any feedback would be much appreciated...

I'm also thinking of using a Bridgelux LED... Would it get too hot? Is this a ridiculous project? Would a Xenon or Krypton bulb be better? If so where could I obtain one in this micro halogen size?
