SHOT Show 2004 Las Vegas HAPPENING

OK, we had the Pre-SHOT Show thread here. And it references the pre-pre-SHOT Show thread in the first post

And then there is the attendance thread.

And this here is the current - <font color="red">SHOT SHOW IS HAPPENING</font> - thread so we can start off with an easier to navigate spot to gather.

Lots of folks are already on location, and the show began at 9am this (Thursday) morning. My wife and I fly in tomorrow (Friday), arriving at about noon.

Yeah, I don't know about this "no cameras" deal. I'll have mine with me... let's see how many shots I can take before they drag me away.

Well I hope your flight and accomodations work out soother than ours did! [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] Never did get to the show today. We fittingly ended up staying at Circus Circus and it has been. My carry on bag had 23 lights in it and some of them have pointy ends. Security didn't even ask to look in side. I did have to take my shoes off though. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] Hope to see some folks on the floor at the show tomorrow.

Not much to see, move along:

The U2 - Surefire 5W with end-clickie and Hall Effect magnetic reed switch dimming neck ring which takes you through no less than 6 (count'em, SIX) brightness levels:

And the SureFire L2, basically a dual-level L4 with the same two-stage tailcap as the L1, tactical (no clickie) operation:

I took movies of the U2's operation but after trying to get them in found the file is just way too large to load until I get home - although I will try again...(send bribes!).

Yeah, copying and pasting the links worked for me. I agree, U2 looks good, L2 looks a little long in the body, kinda like an A2 with an L4 bezel, but the body is an inch or so longer. Too bad they couldn't fit the L2 into the A2 form factor. To me looks are secondary though, as long as it performs.

I can say for sure that I like the U2, but like the others, I'm undecided on the L2, although I think I might change my mind if I should actually be able to handle one.

Can someone describe the U2s beam patern?
How does it compare to the L4, 5, 6?

The U2 looks really nice, while the L2 kinda looks like an early A2 proto. I remember the first pictures of the A2 and it was proportioned like that, too. Much too long for the small body diameter. Hopefully they use some ordinary circuit this time and not some el-cheapo stuff like in the L1 which needs as much space as a single 123 cell.
