Spotting reflector imperfections

Im not sure if someone else posted something like this, but I will take my chances :ohgeez:

I found a super easy way to spot imperfections in reflectors and optics, you just need a "el cheapo" thread counter magnifier:

You can also use a simple magnifier, but the results aren't as nice, but they are still useful

I took these photos at the wall, pointing thru the lens:

McR27 is from an Aleph
IMS27 is from a Lionheart
NX05 and IMS17 are used by me to test stuff from time to time, you can appreciate the abuse they suffered :)

All of these when projected directly to the wall show a perfect beam.

I have tried that too, used two large lenses I got from an old overhead projector. Could even see a small dust particle near the emitter I hadn't noticed before.
