Nixie tubes! Wow, I haven't seen those in ages. I remember seeing them in the displays of some gasoline pumps a long time ago. Very cool and retro.

How's the image quality on the night vision scope?

The image is good enough to see in the dark but not amazing.
I am happy with it I am not sure just exactly what I am going to do with the thing but it is cool none the less.

I got one half of a 2pack of lights from costco from my dad. My brother got the other one. It is a crank-up 3 led light with no batteries. Well, I guess I did need one for the car. It's the car's flashlight now. Thanks, dad.

I got a little 6 year old girl in my face with a smile, proclaiming "Daddy, daddy get up, Santa Clause came!!!", and then I got to watch her open up the presents. That was the best present I got.

I also got to watch me wife open up a set of 6 individually wrapped boxes. All placed inside of each other. Only at the end to find a set of diamond earrings. She never had diamonds before, except for the one on her finger.

The second best was the Band of Brothers box set of DVD's.

I still like the first better, even though I have wanted those DVD's for a looong time.

No lights this year, but I am very particular about those, and usually buy them myself.

One of the most important ones I got was knowing that even after all the rush, crowds of people, stampedes, bad attitudes, comercialism of Christmas, and mad dashes for goods, I can still "hear the bell"

...snip...

Yeah, that about sums it up, doesn't it - my older one is 8, and is on the edge of not believing, but my 4 YO is still really into it - seeing them jump up and down, and my daughter wave her hands (when she is REALLY happy, she flapps her hands - don't ask me why - she just does) made my day

Other gifts? A kent TP-1 Morse code paddle for my ham radio, a new meat thermometer for cooking (I do most of the cooking), and a book of Soduku puzzles - and a bunch of cash from my parents

I know the feeling... add tears of happiness for a forever-dreamed-of present they never-ever thought of getting. :)

I used to hate Christmas, but my kids have made it fun again.

Those bring back memories of the old Wang computers we played around with in grade school in the late 70s. Also when I first started my career in electronics (1983), we had some very old test equipment that utilized them. Didn't know you could find anything that contained them anymore, even retro items.

I have a bench type voltmeter downstairs that uses Nixie tubes for its numeric display.
I don't fire it up all that often because I don't want those tubes to burn out.

Don't have a wife or kids, so Christmas isn't so special anymore. Did get to watch small cousins open stuff Saturday.

My best unexpected gifts were a Heart and a REO Speedwagon CD. My best and only flashlight gift was a M*gcharger I myself bought Thursday.

Of course the bits and pieces of flashlight goodies I have coming are "Christmas Presents"....

Mendleson's in Dayton has nixie tubes for reasonable prices, just in case. Actually they have a lot of neat-looking old tubes, including "magic eyes," acorn tubes and others.

What a heartwarming moment! Thank you for sharing that with us. We don't have children but I can share in this moment vicariously.
