i have a 2dmag right now with 4 123's powering it with a KPR118 BULB from radio shack and i keep blowing them and i have recently learned that that is way to may volts 12v for that bulb... i got the idea from "the poor flashaholics top 10" thread and the post was by cratz2:

"Alternately, you can build the same thing using the 2D body and using 4 123 cells rather than three. Same general thing, but cut the piece of PVC pipe slightly shorter than 4 123 cells. You will need to wrap the pipe around and around with 2 strips of tape of some sort so that it fills up the 2D body without shifting around. And you use a KPR118 bulb rather than the 112 or 113. These are also available at Radio Shack. Then you need to remove the spring and use a certain size of bold, nut and fender washer to make contact with the tailcap. If you want to build this version, I'll get you the sizes of bolts, nuts and fender washers you need."

on that note is there a bulb that i can put in my little 4 123 setup??? or would i be better off using just 3 sticks of 123 and put the kpr118 bulb in a 3C body? would a WA1185 WORK??

and THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT HELP YOU GUYS PROVIDE AND HELP WITH YOU ALL ARE GREAT AND HOPE TO GET TO KNOW YA...

I also tried the 4x123 in 2D but was not happy with the results. I think 3x123 in 2c body is much better. You can run KPR112 ,or now I have a 6V bulb from Sears for the 6V recharge latern they sell. Great output. I have frosted the bulb by mechanical means. In the 2c body I used 3/4' pvc but used heat shrink to take up the outside space. Works better than rubber tubing because batteries just slide in easily. Anyway, for me the output was not any better with 2D 4X123 than the 2c 3X123. Also, the 2c fits hand better. Another good bulb for 3X123 is the Browning 7.2V (for browing 9V black Ice) at Bass Pro Shops.

3X123 in a 2C is great and was what I started out with in my first ever mod. Then I moved on to 2 X 18500 (which is the same length as 2 Cs) to save on cells. Currently I am running a WA1111 on 2X18650s (unfortunately, need to use the unprotected version for this bulb) and I guess this is the furthest I can go with a 2C. Just a note - you will need to deanodise the inside of the tail-cap and remove the spring and replace with a thin fold of aluminium foil to fit 2X18650s. Lye drain cleaner works fine but take care because it is toxic.
