1st Gen KL3 vs. 2d Gen KL3

Hi. Anyone know how to tell the difference from a photo? I'm looking at purchasing a used KL3 that the seller bought in April 2005. He doesn't know which generation it is, but the photo has the same markings at the top of the bezel as a 2d generation. Thanks.

To my knowledge the old KL3 with 1 watt LED looks like a mace type head. It contained a lot of fins and looked mean and ugly (probably why I like it.)

The new KL3 with 3 watt (?) LED is smoother and looks similar to the KL5 head.

There are a couple different "Gen 2" bezels...where it screws on to the body, one transitions with a smooth slope/ring and the other - no smooth slope/ring...both styles are pictured here in this post.

Hey Delta447,

Welcome to CPF!

I have the latest version of the KL3 on a 9P tube. Its a pretty sweet setup. I first use the P90 lamp. Then when the batteries don't support the incan setup I switch over to the new KL3 to finish off the batteries. I get about a good hours use from the cells in each mode with intermittent use.
