Here is a 3 watt LED lantern for sale by LL Bean. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this lantern?

They also have this one that runs on AA's and looks similar to the Target lantern.

I'm looking at these for power outages. Any thoughts?

Hey, those lanterns look nice! Which Target lantern does that second one resemble? The River Rock 4AA is a luxeon lantern; this one has 4 x 5mm leds. But it looks nice nonetheless.

Anyone have one of these? The first one looks interesting; they claim 9 hours on high, yet it's using 4 D cells. The RR lantern gets 3-4 hours on 4AA IIRC. Shouldn't it be alot more than this?

Found some interesting LED lanterns - 0.5W, 1W and 3D cell 3W - at

www.vitalcoop.com Look under "camp/hunting LED Lantern". Prices look to be quite good. The 3 watt/3D with Hi/Low/Flashing is 29.99. Looks a lot like the
River Rock/Target.

Maybe the LL bean & Vitalcoop lights are made by the same manufacturer. They both have the same "flame" symbol to the left of the inscription.

Interesting lanterns here and the comment that John2551 made is an eyebrow raiser too! Hmmm. . .

For me, the problem is that when you get into 4D lanterns, fluorescents produce far more light (200 lumens or so) and with better runtimes. That's the reason the RR 4AA/Jupiter is such a good combo; the size/output/runtime setup is just right.

do the 4d fluorescent lanterns produce 200 lumens with 3 watts ?

most cheaper fluorescent lanterns have a cheap - too low powered inverter in them and they mess the bulb up -
one end tuns black - the bulb dims etc.
