My girlfriend and I don't think the new 007 fits the part, at least not from what we saw in the trailer. I thought the new guy looked something like Olivier Gruner.

I'm sure there are people that I would think would better fit the bill ;) But I'm willing to give the guy a chance. Pierce was fantastic, but he got pretty lousy scripts (his first one, goldeneye was the best of his films). Unless they improve the stories a bit any actor is going to suck. Bond is supposed to be just a little bit campy and these scripts that make it so dark and depressing just dont interest me. These are not supposed to be real life stories of mentally ill british agents, they are supposed to be just a little bit fun as well.

Anyone really a 007 fan here? I used to watch them as a kid growing up, but once I was old enough to think straight, I didn't like it anymore. The problem with it, as with the Mission Impossible series, is that the guy only receives superficial wounds and you know he will never die. This is despite being punched, kicked, stabbed and shot at by every bad guy in the movie. It'd be fine if it was only one movie, but to watch a continuous series with the same predictable outcome every single time seems like a waste of time to me....

James Bond = Hi-tech gadgets, sleep with gorgeous babe, shooting loads of bad guys, finishing his mission, come out without a scratch after this process.

Yes, I am. Got all the movies, got all the books. Know a little of the history and background of the series and author. To your formula, you could also add great scenery/locations and good music. There are quite a few other components common to every Bond film as well.

And while somewhat like you, I would not want to see a movie like this every week, I don't mind an occasional diversion with a happy ending. Life often sux. I've picked Bond. They come out every couple of years or so. Not seen a Norris, Segal, or Diesel flick. They might be great, but I started reading the books when I was a kid and just kind of stayed with Bond. As always, the books are a little to somewhat different from the movies.

If you count all the Bond/Fleming films and videos, this will be the 3rd time the title "Casino Royale" has been used, breaking the tie with "Goldeneye" which was used twice. I'm not an expert, it's just been fun collecting this stuff.

I don't care for the new guy as far as appearance goes, but I'll give him a shot. Sean Connery is THE Bond IMO. Everyone gets measured up against him.

why is it that they reuse titles? My favorite of the casino royals wasn't even really a bond film but can be read about here:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061452/

What a great picture! Ursela Andress, peter sellers, peter OTool, Ronnie Corbet, David Niven, Woody Allen, Orsen Wells, Debora Kerr and Jacqueline Bisset. Now THAT is a cast!

That movie also had enough camp to cover several films :D

The thing that pisses me off about Bond movies is that they pick actors from England where guns are pretty much illegal, so often the fella that plays Bond either doesnt know a damned thing about them outright hates them, or is fightened to even hold one (Roger Moore).

I think the Bond actors need to take weapons classes. Tom Crusie did for Collateral and he became an amazing shooter and very believable as an assassin because of his skill.
