Thinking about using sub size cells for some projects from batterystation.
Do they take a special charger or will a standard charger work?
I have a nihm/nicad charger that can charger different "standard" cells. It has lever type arms that are spring loaded and move to accomodate sizes AA-D. Will this charger work?
If not what charger(s) should I look at?

If you mean Sub C cells, your normal charger will most probably work. If your Sub C cell has got a very high capacity (like 3000+ mAh), your charger _might_ have problems finding a point where to terminate the charge using -delta V tracking (most newer chargers work this way). If your charger can provide enough current (2 A or so), you should be ok. I can't point you to any specific charger which is best suited but I'm sure someone else here can.
