Here's my Sonic. I guessed it would unscrew like the IU. It does.
I've searched for mods unsuccessfully.

I have Nichia and uncut SMJ leds on the way but any other ideas would be welcome please. Any experiences from those who have boldly gone?

Cheers

The white stuff (apart from the cat hair) is masking tape to (vainly) protect the surface. My sonic lives on my keychain and seems to hit the ground everyday but I thought I'd try and keep it reasonably clean.

I used two pipe wrenches. The masking tape covered the head and the knurled bit on the body. Judging by the feel when it unscrewed it may have been glued but not in the same white gunk way of the infinity ultra.

Take care as the metal is quite thin and I rekon it will deform easily if using more force than needed. I didn't heat the head before untwisting. I suppose you could use the masking tape on the jaws of the wrenches and heat up the sonic head, this may help.

The led pil just drops out.

OK here's the bare PCB.

This runs a test SMJ Led at 50mA and I'd like to pump it up to 100mA.

The resistor? R100 measures 0.1 ohm (as far as I can tell). (East)
5 contacts (possible step up) C300 (N/East)
3 contacts (possible transistors), Z51, 617 (centre,North)
1 inductor (South)
1 larger 2 contact block (Diode?/reisitor more likely). (West)

Any ideas please for upping the current to 100mA?
The resistor being 0.1ohm would be a *&*^ to reliably get to 0.05ohm.

Cheers

remove the 0.1 ohm and replace with 0 ohm soldering. the drive a nichia CS led as they are more "durable" then see the current.

+2, that's all I did was sub in a CS once I got where you are. All the difference I was looking for. BTW, I did use heat, and on my Sonic sample once it got pretty darn hot the glue just cashed in, I could about unscrew it with two fingers.

Oh well.

In goes the Nichia.

I'll have a look at the circuit in more detail.

Another SM 0.1 ohm resistor?
I'll order the moon on a stick at the same time.
I saw some reisitor wire on another Zetex mod now where was that...

Thanks for the suggestions.

Cheers

Leduk, I installed a snow white LED in my Sonic on this past Christmas eve, and was walking around in the yard on some freshly-fallen snow using it... seemed plenty bright... quite an improvement over stock!

I personally would stash the uncut SMJLED in yours... the ones I've seen have great color and uniformity, and would probably run very efficiently in the Sonic.

As for the masking tape... well, if you want to have a little fun and spice things up a bit, you could slip some heatshrink tubing in your choice of colors over the thing! That ought to protect it AND look quite a bit nicer. :)
