What's the difference b/w the old Arc AAA and the new one they had after they came back into business? And is the AAA considered the most popular of the Arc line?

The newer ARC, if you are purchasing the ARC-P, P=premium version, means you will have the Nichia CS 5mm led, that is brighter than the old models. You can probably say the AAA is the most popular from the ARC line, since it's the only one they have currently!!!. However, they are working on a new light, from what i have read, which may come out next year.

Physically, the head of the light now has a slight conical taper to it, whereas the original was more tubular. The new one might be slightly more comfortable for pocket carry, but I suspect the major difference is in appearance.

On an aside, you may find the light somewhat expensive to import to Canada due to generally high shipping costs, taxes and duties across the border. There might be broker costs as well. Check carefully before you order.

Does the brighter light translate into a shorter battery life?

No, it should be the same runtime, as they have improve the output of the led, without using more power.
