I was thinking of putting a Madmax module onto somethign using a 123A. Would it work and what would the runtime be?

It should work. Run time will be like? Depends on your load, it just steps up voltage. It's not regulating current nor voltage if I am not wrong, it's just stepping up voltage.

i could be wrong, but i would guess if you're going to be using it with dead 123s you might be better off with a badboy current regulator. the madmax gets dimmer over the life of the batteries.

Ah, but Lithium dies at around 2.7 volts. And that's still plenty of voltage to boost with..
