wow.. now if we have copper and willing to use 1xaa, we can use the space available to make the heatsink bigger

DD is not feasible with 2xLiON.. you can resistor or use an LDO or buck driver.. a nice example is here

That was a Txxx running @700-750ma NG iirc.The cu was about .4" thick,pressed in place.I have a LuxV on an old MM with a BB500ma driven from either 2Xaa or 1 li-ion aa or 14670 with an al sink pressed in it does not get very warm at all.
