I came across a similar concept in a recent (this or last month's) issue of Scientific American. Instead of using lasers, though, the research team utilized a sort of macroscale wireframe structure in order to achieve that sub-wavelength superlens effect. If enough interest is expressed in it, I could dig up the article and post it (or as much as legally possible) on this thread.
