Just found this board in search for direction in building my own light for mountain bike trail riding. There are several systems commercially available, but not quite up to snuff as we are out riding the lights or burn time is not there.
Looking to build a lightweight solution with plenty of output and sufficient burn time. That being said I'm not quite sure which direction in which to start. Currently off the shelf options are using 20W halogens or HID with a burn time of roughly 2 hours. Need to increase light output without any backsplash without increasing weight as the lamp is to be helmet mounted for best performance.
Plan to use NiMH or Lithium Polymer battery to power it.
I'm certain with all the knowledge on this board someone can point me in the right direction.
