I'm also an accutron collector... have 3 of them now, a model 214 from 1969 in a 14k gold filled case, an electroplated 218 from 1977, and a Deep Sea 666 (218)with the internal rotating bezel and an odd dial thats marked for a 24 hr movement that was never made...(12 hr movement installed)...
Just recently i also got a luminox watch (dont knock it... it actually looks rather stylish) since I needed something that could withstand a reasonable amount of rough play

I have a Deep Sea 666 too...it`s my prize watch...I have a 14k gold Accutron thats probably worth more but to me it`s not as cool. I also have a old Timex Electric (not quartz) that looks and runs great...not worth much but I like it a lot. I have one of the LED wathes from the 70`s but it not working. I almost bought an old Rolex date adjust...it looked simple yet elegant...but when I went back to get it it was gone. Sea Masters are way cool...but I don`t have one.

I am definitely NOT a watch fanatic, so know almost nothing about them. My main concern is that they keep fairly accurate time. I have been considering a Luminox however, so comments, opinions on this watch are appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not a watch fanatic either, (I only have about 150 or so around here)

But what I considered to be a pretty good deal was my 2 Navy Luminoxes from eBay..(about $100.ea) -if you like things that glow in the dark, you'll probably be pretty happy with this one...

-Just make sure they are not from "old" stock, as the tritium has only about a 12yr. half-life....

Overall, i think the fit/finish of the luminox watches is excellent. The dial markers are exceedingly easy to read, and they keep amazingly good time due to their Swiss made, ETA quartz movements. The movements have a built in battery saver which makes the second hand tick forward 2 seconds to indicate a low battery.
BTW, the traser light sources absolutely blow away indiglo for readability.

Except when I'm in a tux or white dinner jacket, I never leave the house without my Luminox either on my left wrist or in my briefcase next to the SF 9N.

I have the luminox navy seal watch that is stainless steel with an italian rubber strap, its great, my dad has a rolex submariner and he likes mine better, especially when we are in a dark place and his suppossedly "glow in the dark watch hands" are so dim you cant see them, so he has to ask me what time it is. It is also great when you are doing something and dont have have free hand, you dont have to hit the indiglo button. BUY this watch, I am a kayaker and my watches see alot of water, and so far this watch has outlaster my other timexs (3 so far lost to the water) by 8 months.

I'm a watch fiend who can't find what I want. I love the look of the reproduction WWII watches. I'd get one, but I need one that displayes the day and date. Yeah, go ahead and laugh. I deserve it. Any suggestions?

FWIW - Luminox ... I'm on my second one, my first dying from accidental misapplication of a baseball bat by my son years ago at practice ... the watch saved my wrist but sacrificed itself in the process. The trasers were cool to play with, though.

This one is 5 years old and I wear it always ... except when my wife forces me to get all dressed up. I can't recommend the Luminox watches enough for every day & rugged wear.

HOWEVER! I also do SCUBA. If you dive in your Luminox, I suggest you send yours back to the company for battery changes so the watch retains it's depth rating! If you or a local dealer replace the battery, Luminox will not stand behind the warranty for depth. Well, a local jeweler replaced my battery and after an 80' dive the watch fogged because he didn't depth test it after opening it up. Perhaps jewelers on the coast do this, but they sure don't here. Luminox was great to work with in getting my watch restored, but you really don't want to have to buy another movement like I did!

Sorry, Craig, I'm not much help on the WWII style watches.

I just bought a mid size Omega Seamaster Pro Bond style, automatic watch. This is 1000 percent more then I have ever paid for a watch before. The watch is solid and very rugged. It has only gained 15 seconds in three weeks. I've been heavy duty mountain biking with it twice and it has held up. I don't know how well those automatic movements are supposed to take the jarring and shaking that goes on when mountain bike riding but I don't care as I didn't buy it to baby it. The only thing is, is that it's heavy as a boat anchor and for that reason alone, I'm not sure if I would buy it again.

geepondy,

You made a wise choice with the Omega. I have a Seamaster Chrono Profession too. I have been wearing my every single sec since Feb'94, expect for sending it in for service a couple of times.

I don't do mountain biking but I certainly haven't had to "baby" my watch doing everything else.

The weight of the watch will take a couple of weeks to get used to it. After you are going to wonder how lighter watches ever work. :)

I recently got bitten by the 'watch bug'. Only mechanical watches do it for me (no quartz or its variants like kinetic, solar eco drive, thermic etc.).
Here are the watches I have:
Seiko diver, skx007 on James Bond NATO strap
acquired from www.chronograph.com and strap from www.timefactors.com
Swatch irony body & soul skeleton watch
Citizen visible escapement watch from Wayne at www.roachman.com/watches.html
Watches I am going to acquire (hopefully in near future):
a Orient world time 'power reserve' watch (see it at www.orient-watch.com, source this through babelfish.altavista.com for language translation)
A Grand Seiko from www.higuchi-inc.com

LUMINOX IS GREAT. I got my first one about 3 months ago. I went with the Navy Seals Titanium. You can get them for about $350. I like the light weight and toughness of the titanium. It also has a sapphire crystal rather than mineral glass. And I got the titanium bracelet as I spend a lot of time in the water, it has a quick adjust to fit over a wet suit, and it will hold up better here in FLA.

At the risk of being branded a heretic, I prefer a G-shock to the Luminox watches (or Traser Night Diver, as they are known outside of US catalogs) I've used both, and the Casio product can deal with a lot more abuse than the Luminox (additional plus; you get to CHOOSE when your wrist glows in the dark!!
grin.gif
) The watch is certified to +/_ 15 second a MONTH!! And is cheaper!!
