Will I burn out my diode?

I would like to rig up a red dot laser to the bottom of my paintball marker barrel so I can practice around the house and back yard without having to change the color of the trees and interior of my house. What I was hoping to do was to tape a pressure switch or microswitch behind the trigger so I can simulate firing my marker. If I simulate my firing pattern like machine gun bursts, will I end up burning out the laser diode? I'm considering a red laser as opposed to a greenie unless the greenie is better suited for this purpose.

What do you guys think? Thanks much.

any pulsing of the diode should be fine if its only as fast as your finger, using a green would be better as most red lasers are poorly viewable during the day, 5-10mw 532 would be the best as you would need really dangerous optical power levels in red to get the same visibility in the daylight

Thanks for the reply! I didn't think about the greenies as I was just looking for something that was cheap and reasonably visible.
