These are reportedly some of the most efficient leds yet.
I was kinda wondering if there might be a way for these to end up in some really small lights.
Especially given thier useful 70-90 degree beam angle not needing a lense for close up work.
Seems like a very feasible idea imho with a little work.

I wanna do that to my e0. Then again it kind of defeats the purpose of the e0 and why I got it to begin with (super long battery life). Then yet again, I could just buy a second e0 in the natural finish I wanted... hmmm

How hard is a mod like this for a (smart) n00b. How much are the parts...

The cree won't affect runtime on the e0 if its current regulated.... Just brighter.

You'd need a cree and cut it to fit, and that's about it... maybe some thermal paste or epoxy... Drill out the reflector larger if needed...

I've seen them being modified and put into CR2 Ions. I'm pretty impressed with the beamshots i must say.

I was kinda thinking something even smaller.
Like for instance...
Those cheap 2x cr2016 batteried lights.
Something in that size range.
I have a countycomm "world's toughest led light"
still on my keychain with a Nichia cs 500 led in it doing a very good job.
I was kinda wondering if there might be a way to squish a Cree XRE into something close to this size and run off of a couple cr2032's for everyday keychain carry.

u can even make them fit on an LRI Photon X Light if u tried. Wonder what the runtime will be on 2x 2016 coin cells?? ;)

With 1 CR2032 in a Photon Freedom Max / Photon X-Light Micro it would be a great combination. especially considering >100 Lumen/Watt at 20 mA (output is likely going to be around 5 - 6 lumens at 20 mA)...

only thing is fitting the LED, I do not have the LED's on hand so not sure how to acomplish this.

a couple of P4 bin emitters are on way...

Hehee.

Not all the Cree XRE's will be over $7.50.
Some still very good ones will likely be lower.
Now, as for the light...
I was kinda thinking of maybe a 2 piece milled aluminum one that fits in a pocket like a pocketwatch.
The led and it's ceramic substrate are somewhat large to begin with....
Here, hold on.
I'll get a pic of a Cree xre with a couple of keychain lights and see what you guys think.
brb....

Edit:
Here ya go. ;)

Lighthound has a keychain light they claim is "brighter than Arc AAA Premium"

I just asked about it in another thread but so far no responses.

I have a Ion modded with the new Cree that I keychain. It's great if you like a mini HDS 60XR on your keychain. Roughly speaking the light will produce about 60 lumens for about an hour and twenty minutes on bright. I posted a review in the review forum if you want to learn more about it.
