are there any aftermarket maglite reflectors to get rid of the dark center spot? I have the 4D version and when its set for a wide beam, there is a dark center spot thats pretty annoying.

First: Welcome! Sit back and be prepared to learn and spend!

As for the dark spot, it is a result of the bulb. If you 'frost' the bulb it will take out a lot of the artifact. A lot of people around here use something called Armor Etch (made for glass etching) available at many craft stores.

I personally just use sandpaper and sand up about 2/3 of the bulb. This is high enough that the filament should be covered by the frosting and shoot light straight out the front of the bulb.

You can find reflectors. Some finishes on the surface of the reflector may be of aid in your desire to lessen artifacts. If money is no object why not try them all and post your results. However, you may have to wait in order to find a complete supply including all reflector surface finishes.

I'm interest in the MOP variation for experimentation.

All the best,
