Hi I started ordering parts today to do my first MAG85 build. I have seen a couple options as far as chargers and batteries. Some folks sell shrinkwrapped battery packs like Mad Maxabeam or their is the option of the Fivemegga holder which is out of stock. I know there is a nother holder that you can install and remove the batteries and charge some what like the fivemegga but can't locate a link to it. Help with a link to that or a name would be appricaited.

That said my main question is should I go with a holder that lets me remove the batteries and get a charger like a MAHA or a Lacrosse? I currently have a Nexcell Charger that is a few years old. That I Charge my AA/AAA batts with, but its features are very minumal. Or should I go ahead and purchase one of these generic looking 7.2-12amp multi chargers?

Thanks,
Blake

The other battery holder for a MAG85 would be the one made by modamag. Here was the groupbuy thread: https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/96929 however the groupbuy was closed about last June and the remaining battery adapters went to the Sandwiche Shoppe: http://theledguy.chainreactionweb.com/index.php?cPath=48_56_73 . Unfortunately they are all gone now, so your next option is to ask for one over in the Buy forum.

Here are some other useful threads with info on where to find parts for ROP's or Mag85's:

As to your question about chargers. It can be annoying to take the batteries out of the holder to charger them. On one of my holders the batteries fit snugly enough that it is a bit difficult to get them out without scraping a bit of the shrinkwrap off the negative end of the cell. I'm planning to get a charger that can charge the entire battery pack at once (variable for at least 6-9 cells). I've been trying to decide on whether to get one of the 'generic looking' ones from Alin10123 https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/104771 or an expensive pack charger.

If anyone has recommendations about a good charger for NiMH battery packs, I would like to read them too.

I just received my Triton charger/analyzer and really like it. They are well very respected around here. Good for up to 24 Nicad and Nimh cells in additions to SLA's and Lithium Ion - up to 4 cell packs. Might not be able to get one of these as its the old model. The new triton 2 has some improvements and can be had for at least as little as $119.
