Dirt cheap spacer magnets at the Dollar Store - might be rare earth

This may have been posted before, but I didn't see it so...

I was doing some research on where to get spacer magnets locally and found Radioshack has them but they are kind of expensive. After looking a little further, I found that you can a bunch of strong magnets out of these at a dollar store for $1:

They are typically in the toy row. Should be able to pop them out with a pliers. Anyone know if the magnets in these are rare earth?

I don't know the true test but there are those magnets that are noticeably stronger than normal magnets... to the point if they pinched your skin when clamped down they hurt like the ****ens....

Safety note: Few weeks ago on the news, they said that a small child who swallowed several of these "toy" magnets twisted his intestines. He died before they could remove them.

While no adult is going to swallow them, I'd be extra cautious around your kids.

These are not NEODYMIUM magnets. The strength is no where near that.

But do take ALOT of caution when you have kids around the house. These thing are small and smooth. Easily injested.
