Default Question: Are there any collimators for luxeonstars that redirect output 90 degrees?

In other words, something like a narrow angle optic with a prism or mirror @ 45 degree angle, at the end of it.

Or perhaps a very efficient light pipe?

I'm tinkering with some old 1W 'Stars for use as 'city lights' in my car's headlight assemblies. If you're not familiar with the term since we don't have them in USA/Canada market cars, found mainly in cars in Europe... They are low wattage incan bulbs installed in the headlight reflector shells. Turned on with the parking lights. Improves your visibility, plus the added bonus of keeping the headlight shell illuminated in case of a main headlamp failure.

Since the heat from the halogen filament would kill a LED, the standard mounting of a hole close to the main bulb is out of the question. I was thinking of 'piping' the light in from beneath and forward. With the point source shining back at the reflector. Similar to the concept of Pelican's LED flashlight for firefighters.

The LED would be thermally isolated, yet still use the reflector, albeit not efficiently, (or more efficiently, who knows).

there are 10x25 line optics, and 25* "wide angle" optics, adding 2 pieces of scotch transparent tape to the top of that might make it 45*
the original basic angle of the high-dome thing is about 60* , is there any way you can have its little head poke out into your light? because the less of anything you use, the more light you will have from it when your done.

they did light pipes just yesterday, but they were mostly difusers.
there is a 2AA penlight , you know the cheap kind with the little incan bulb on the end, that comes WITH a light pipe, i donno what its for sticking it in your ear, or poking around into electronics. it might be just what you need, its 2.5in then a 80* bend and another 2 inches.
but to bend it BACK around and in, thats gonna take lots of the power away fast, would have to use "fiber optics" and they have a hard time with tight angles, being glass and all.

prism would be another 20% loss, a mirror on the end of a light pipe, mabey 50% would be left after that trick.

ahh there is a pic of the elusive thing

you can see the light pipe in one of the penlights here, it has a black rubber boot, that shoves onto the end of the penlight. nowdays they just stuff the bulb ITSELF on the end of a wire, much more efficient.

What about the 90 degree angle thing on the UK 4AA Unilite ZOOM eLED?
My mods: Huntlight FT-01 w/ Cree XR-E, Black Diamond Moonlight w/ Nichia CS LEDs, Streamlight Survivor LED w/ Seoul P4, SL PP 4AA Lux w/ Edison Edixeon Star, Lumapower M1 w/ Seoul P4, Pelican M3 w/ Cree XR-E star, SL Argo HP w/ Seoul P4, a penny and part of a copper pipe cap
