Anyone do it or know someone who's a trooper?

How is it?

What are your thoughts on it as a whole?

Its different for each state. Which state are you in? I looked into it here in MO several years ago and I know a few troopers.

Have you considered arranging for an "informational interview" at your nearest New Jersey State Police station to get more of a first hand feel for what the job might entail? They may also be able to arrange for you to go on a ride-along with one of the officers as well (that can vary from agency to agency.)

My brother in law's brother went through Colorado's academy last Jan (06) and has been on the road since June. He loves it. And he went through at a rather older age of 38ish. He's got my brother in law wanting to join our highway patrol as an Auxillary trooper.

My best friend left a city PD to be a Florida trooper. He enjoys it as it encompasses everything he loved about police work: Pursuits, finding drugs, playing with radar and laser, writing tickets.

Short answer, give it a try. You may find you love it.
