Hey guys, are there any easy to build circuits that can boost a typical NiMh battery to around three times its voltage input?

What do you want this for?

How about using a MadMax board from The Shoppe?

was gonna use it for my elly with the bad circuit. was just seeing if there was something cheap cuz i would feel its a waste if i just threw it away

There are a bunch of circuits for driving a white LED from a 1.2V cell, which is not quite the same as providing 3.5V. Some of the circuits are not very high in efficiency, but are very simple.

Modify it for direct li-ion drive and order new from DX/kaido :D

Ripping off Elly driverboards is also probably cheapest source for 1.2v input converter boards

I'm starting to play with this: http://edusite10.tripod.com/led3/onetran/regulated.htm

It's a joule thief with an added transistor and resistor that provides current regulation - pretty clever. Not sure if it would suit - it requires a bifilar wound toroid. I've done the original joule thief with as few as 10 turns, but don't have any really small toroids.

Now to diddle with the circuit for nominal 3v, 2x2 white led :)
