here you are the most important informations:

ultrastinger
Battry: 5-cell 6volts
bulb: halogen-xenon bi-pin
lumen: 295
runtime: up to 1h

magcharger
battery:5-cell 6volts
bulb: halogen bi-pin
lumen:218
runtime: up to 2h

for more informations

maglite website: http://www.maglite.com/product.asp?psc=RECHARGE
streamlight website: http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=12

Try check out these reviews.

The good thing about the UltraStinger is that its lighter & uses a textured reflector to have a nicer beam.

The Magcharger is heavier & uses a SMO reflector(not as pretty beam but more brightness) The Magcharger though can be modified to be brighter. A simple drop in Wa1160 will increse the brightness to 300 something lumens. Then there is a mod to make it to a Mag85 which will be even much brighter.

From what I heard, it isn't easy to mod...but some people have modded it. But Magcharger on the other hand is much much easier to mod(many bulb options, etc)

I'm in favor of the magcharger. Definitely more options. The only significant plus of the stinger is it is smaller.

Or as we commonly say here at CPF...
Buy both! :naughty:

I think Magcharger makes a better weapon also. Anyone else see that episode of COPS where the officer used the Magcharger and bashed the window of a fleeing vehicle? :)

Brighter in the MC than the 1185 is the 5761 at less voltage. 1448 bulb lumens/ 948 torch lumens on 7.2 volts. How about 2,272 feet of throw with the oem deep smooth reflector?

my edit: Frosting the bulb takes care of nice beam issues, and in all lights the batteries do not hold that 7.2 volts, they decrease so you have a lot of time just under the 900 mark but that is still brighter than the 1185 starats out at.

The Ultrastinger, being much thinner and somewhat lighter than the MC, is preferable if you are going to be carrying it around all of the time. Replacement bulbs and battery packs are inexpensive, and its a fine light. Plenty of throw. I keep one in the Powernoodlemobile.

I have a gazillion lights, and a MC with 1160 bulb (a 60 second mod) is one of my favorites. Its big and heavy, but puts out a honkin' ton of light which - to my eyeballs - is generally comparable to a Mag85.

Don't worry too much about which one to get first, because you'll have the other one too by the end of the year.

Ultrastinger, Stinger, Polystinger, and baby Strion.

cheers

but probably I'll buy MC first and immediatly I'll order the 1160 bulb:laughing:
I need only the bulb, right?
not reflector, lens, mod switch?

I've owned and used both extensively as duty lights. My preference is the Magcharger with WA1160 bulb.

You just need the bulb, but make sure you also get a mica shim to slide over the 1160 pins before you plug it into the light. The mica acts as a heat shield and protects the socket from the additional heat of the 1160.

If you order bulbs from litho123 in the group buys section he used to include mica shields at no charge. Probably still does but check...

If I was not going to mod the light then I would lean slightly towards the UltraStinger over the MagCharger. If you are willing to do simple mods (change the bulb) the Mag with 1160 is considerably brighter.

One more thumbs-up for the Ultrastinger. I love the sub-C form factor. The stinger series generally, appear to be winners. Enjoy.

No comments on the Ultrastinger, but I just bought two MC's for my trucks and wish I'd bought them years ago.

Do you use a different battery pack with the 5761? The stock pack is only 6 volts. Who makes the 5761?

I have both the UltraStinger and the MagCharger. My US is stock, as upgrading it is quite a bit more involved than most Mag hosts are, especially the MC. I have my MC set-up with a WA1160 bulb and mica-shield, running on the stock pack. Streamlight highly over-rates the US's output, as the highest figure I have ever seen in my lightbox with it fresh off the charger is ~175 lumens out the front. It does however make good use of its output by having a very "needle" like beam. In comparison, my MC with the 1160 clocks in at ~450 lumens. The MC's beam throws just as well...actually a bit more, and also has a lot brighter side spill. See for yourself :grin2: The wall in the pics below is about 50ft from the light.

I think you made the right decision

I have Stingers, my cousin has a MC. I also have a Mag85. I prefer the Stingers' form factor over the Mag. Now a C-size MC would be sweet.

Best place to buy 1160s ???

From CPF member Litho123. Price is 3 bulbs for $15 + $2 shipping. He throws in a free mica heat shield, too (if he's still got them).

His sales thread is in the Custom/Mod BST, I believe.
