So here is the set up. I have a badboy 500 running 4 lux threes. What would be my max input voltage. I tried to get a general runtime number, so I ran a 18650 cell and got one and one half hours off of it. I'm probably going to end up running 4 to 8 Nmh AA's when all is said and done. I want to try to get at least 4 hours of runtime.

Can one of the moderator move this thread to another section. I don't think I'm going to get enough views here.

Photorob,

The max input for the Badboy is 10V, but to be safe Wayne recommends 9V.
This is below the combined Vf of 4 Lux IIIs in series so you should be fine with 9V.

Assuming each emitter has a Vf of 3.25V (borderline H/J bin), 4 emitters in series, driven at 500 mA, Vin of 9V, and a runtime of 4 hrs, the computed solution for your 9V battery pack's capacity would be 3750 mAh.

I used Wayne's runtime calculator algorithm here:
http://theledguy.chainreactionweb.com/resistor_calc.php

A suitable solution would be 2 X 18650.
