Another Q4 in a P1D-CE, Beamshots...

Hi all,

Inspired by Nake's thread I decided to upgrade the emitter in my P1D CE.

The emitter used was a Cree XRE Q4 with a WC Tint from Cutter Electronics.

I broke my thumb a couple of days ago so opening the Fenix up was a little problematic but managed it without a scratch, phew

Less of the waffle here are the beamshots ( my first, so bear with me)


Original P1D CE on Max with a fresh cell:




New emitter on Max with same Cell:




New emitter on Max with a RCR123a Cell




The overall output has definitely increased. The hotspot is brighter but these were only very quick indoor beamshots and what they don't show so well is the brighter sidespill.

The tint of the new emitter is bit green when using the standard CR123 cell, very similar in colour to my Surefire KL4. However, using the RCR123 cell, the increased drive current seems to shift the tint slightly cooler.

Same camera settings?

Hi Gearbox,

Yep they were the same camera settings i.e fixed ISO, Aperture and shutter speed.

They were very quick photos. The actual mod came out better than I thought when I used the light outdoors.
