Thread: Misbehaving AAA Hybrios

    Default Misbehaving AAA Hybrios

I wanted some LSD cells for my new LF2, and the ONLY ones they had at Fry's were the Uniross Hybrio ones. I would have preferred Rayovac or Eneloop, but they didn't have those.

First, I ZTSed all four cells, and they were NOT pre-charged. Then, when I quick-charged them, they wouldn't hold a charge. Then I slow-charged them over several hours and thought all was good, as each cell ZTSed at 5/5. A couple days later (from Monday to Wednesday), I ZTSed the cells again, and they were all at either 3/5 or 4/5!

These things are going back. With my old XG AAA cells doing the same thing, charging AAAs has started to feel like digging a hole in a bucket of water.

Any ideas for local AAA LSD cell retailers? Circuit City, perhaps?

I don't mean this as an endorsement, but I just purchased a supply of eneloops from www.batterybob.com after seeing a recommendation here on CPF. They come in two-packs but the prices are reasonable, and with free shipping it's the equivalent of local shopping.

Around here Circuit City and Ritz Camera sell Eneloops. I've heard that Walmart has started selling them, too.

man that sucks, the enloop AAAs are the first AAA i have used (and abused) that have held up. i wonder if the ray-o-vacs you got a frys are some knock off or something?

with this new Overpriced easily cloned technology, i would want to make sure the source (the store selling them) and its distributers, can be trusted 100%.
so because if that, i have made sure i didnt buy the "cheapest deal i could find" on them.

this is not to insinuate that frys would buy knockoffs.

Target carries the Rayovac Hybrids at a reasonable price, ~$10/4. Circuit City has the Eneloops, and Amazon has them too.

I bought a 4 pack of AA Eneloops with charger at Walmart for around $20. Unfortunately, they didn't have just the cells.

I don't think I would trust the ZTS. Try using them in a device before you pass judgement.

I've had lots of bad experiences with Uniross cells in general. I'm not sure if uniross make their own cells or buy them from other companies. I find the capacity is well below spec and there is a large occurence of dead cells. I haven't actually tried the Hybrios yet but, based on past experience, I would just avoid Uniross altogether and go with the eneloops.
