There's nothing worse than losing your bone in space. Find your bone. Gatlight.

Meanwhile, back at the Lumencraft laboratory, Prometheus, upon returning from SSC, creates and gives mankind the torch.

Prometheus was the son of a Titan, one of the giant Elder Gods of Greek mythology. Prometheus was a friend to mortal men; his best-known act was sneaking into the heavens and stealing fire from the gods, which he then delivered to humans on Earth.

Nothing too fancy here - just switched out the old school torch that Lady Liberty uses and brought her into the new millennium.

*The file links to a larger file, but for whatever reason the site seems to limit the file to 1024 pixels high. I have much larger files if required.

From this photo of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa:

    I made this mock-up:

I was struck by the similarity of the proportions of the Tower and the Gatlight – they are almost exactly the same.
    Resistance is futile...

    Dinan,

What did you do to stylize the GATLIGHT text in two of your photos ("Let There Be Gatlight" and just "Gatlight" in blue)? Both of those look great.

I have a few questions about uploading the images.
The maximum allowed size is 1.5 MB, what is the best resizing result that I should use from my original 2 MB picture (Windows XP large size resize will result in about 100K but other software will be much bigger)? Let's say that I resize it down to around 0.5 MB and when I upload, which choice (from Image Shack) should I check for resizing among several size monitors or just choose optimize without resizing?
    Thanks,
    Tanasit

I thought the maximum image posting size is 640px so I reduced the size of some of my images

I think they limit the file size rather than the resolution because several images posted earlier are up to 800 x ???

Most forum I belong allow up to 150 mb.

Here is my second submission. I think it goes without saying, but this is for the photoshop part of the contest ...

The file links to a larger resolution file, and I have a much larger version available if needed.

Wow, those are sweet pics. For the second one, did you take it in a darkened room, Gat on low, then use a long exposure to capture "V3" written in red laser?

Those Tux Gats turned out great!

i can explain a little about the "Fair Use" aspect of copyright law, and modification of a picture, in MY OWN words.
if the picture has little left of the original, because the new author or new artist, is not copying the original, but making thier OWN ORIGINAL.

So tagging, or minor alterations, or basically stealing somone elses work and tossing your name on it, is not "fair use" by definition. but using an original and COMPLETLY changing it into a new piece of artwork might qualify.

The example they use is the Mona Lisa, if you take a pic or reproduce the mona lisa, the guy who made it originally is still the author, but if you mosiac out the whole thing into a stained glass look, then its not the same item, if you paint george bush on mona lisas head, its no longer a mona lisa, its a mona bush, and you are the author of mona bush then.
the IDEA is that the artist creates a totally new original piece of work (which may include components of another) as opposed to stealing somone elses work, making some minor alteration and calling it yours.

if picasso sticks a nose from the sistene(sp) chapel into one of his abstracts, it is unlikly that anyone would say he was copying michealangelo :-)
it all comes down to who is the real artist, and who is just copying.

of course the fair use loophole in the copyright law, is redefined by anyone who isnt really willing to do the actual work or create an original, so they think they can soften the edges of a pic, put a digital frame around it, and put thier name on it, they think they can alter the "pixels" of an original (change the data numbers) and that is fair use, but basically the law doesnt read like that.

fair use also can apply differentally to music, and movies and stuff like that. somone who scratches a album to make new "music" is qualifying under the law easily, somone who re-mixes entire parts of a music piece does not qualify under fair use, although they try and say that it is. its kinda like that, it does not make them the original author of the work, untill it is an actual original work. A music mixer, is a DJ, not a musician or artist :-)

interpretations of the ownership of the original and the quantity of the original that exists, and the definition of it being original, is up to the courts and judges and stuff, and because they are human, there will be many variations in how they will decide.

The setup was in the tent with 3 room ceiling lights, Tux was set on the glow in the dark sheet, shutter last 4 seconds (long enough for me to write "V3" with red laser and end at the bottom of #3). This shot was after about 5 trials.

Guys (and gals of course ), altough the maximum pic size allowed is 800x800, I would like to ask to post thumbnails and link the original sized pics to keep this thread from being unaccessible for those of us with a slow connection.

VidPro thanks for the legal explanation.

Wow Tanasit you got some awesome photos there.... also some of the photoshopped submissions are awesome. This is going to be a lot of fun. I'll try to start putting them into a web gallery soon... so you guys can look at every person's portfolio in a more comfortable way.

NASA said he could only bring one flashlight this time, not all of them. That was easy.

Gatlight - NOT your every day carry.

The only image I could find with somewhat correct angles had a carpet under it so cutout is terrible and it needs a shadow....

Gatlight really lights her fire - got one?

    Gat is "all that"
