Thread: Posting photos?

  1. #1

    Default Posting photos?

Can anyone help? How do I post an actual photo within a post as opposed to a link to a hosted file?

    Thanks in advance.

I have also replied to your other test thread.
You must use a direct link to the picture file, not to a page that contains the picture. The link must end with ...jpg or ...gif.

The easiest way is to upload the picture on imageshack.us (fast and you don't need to register), then be sure to copy the direct link to the uploaded picture and write this link between the [img]...[/img] tags.
OR when writing a reply on CPF, click the "insert image" icon and insert the link there.

In your case the actual link to that picture is:

(I clicked with right mouse button on that picture, then I looked in the Properties and copied the Link).

I put this link between [img]LinkGoesHere[/img] and this is the picture:

I was going to ask this same question.

Another question I had was can you post photos directly from your computer or do you have to go through a website?

If so can someone suggest multiple sites that might be of interest?

    Thanks

leprechaun414, no you can't post directly from your computer, As Daniel already said, you need to host the picture on a site first. I'm using ImageShack myself, but there are others as well. You can Google for them.

Just hit the quote feature of any post that has a photo to get the general idea of how to post a picture.
Register for a free photo hosting service.
Then hit this little thingy here at cpf.

    Finally learned how! For people like me, here's a few problems I had;
    1. missed the / in the second [/IMG]
    2. Using smugmug, needed to go to "share" top right hand corner - so I could get a link that ended in ".jpg"

Okay, I've read the stickys. I've searched the forums. I've verified that others have done what I want to do. I've saved my pics on dropbox and gotten a link to them. I've posted the raw link, the link within [img]...[/img], tried [IMG]...[/IMG], even tried spaces between the tags and the URL. I've tried the 'insert image' and 'link' buttons. But every time it comes up as a link, not a pic.

What am I missing? My latest attempt is in the 'testing' thread in the 'Practice Posting' forum.

I know I'll probably slap my head and shout "Doh!" when I read the answer, but I've been trying for two hours and gotten nowhere.

    Thanks in advance.

It doesn't seem to be the 's'. With or without the 's', if I paste the link directly into the post, or if I enclose it in [img] [/img], or if I use the 'link' button, it shows the link in the post, so you can click it and get to the picture. But if i use the 'insert image' button, what you see in the post is a black box with an X in it. Something's changed in the software. Last time I posted a pic, there was a button the had a picture of a mountain on it. Is it as simple as the icon has changed?

The Insert Image button is the one next to the the Link and Unlink buttons (Earth with a link & Earth with a x) before the Link Video button (film strip).

See my post here for a bit of help but not quite enough.

I don't use dropbox myself so I have no idea how changing image size there works so I don't know if it is adding blank space to your image or if that is the way you made it.
