Outstanding! I smell a sticky in the works here. :twothumbs

Would you consider expanding your DB to include rear LED lights? :)

Sweet info and thank-you.

Would love more info about the Trinewt by Niterider and the TridenX by Cygolite.

I think that there is no longer any use for incan's in bike lightning, HIDs will extinct in 2 years... I'll probably add a few 5/10/20W incan's & HIDs for cost / efficiency / burn time comparison but that's all.

If somebody thinks that is necessarily to add more this kind of lamps he can gather data and post here.

Although I'm not keen on spending hundreds of dollars on a bike light, I applaud your initiative. I'm sure it will be useful for many members here.

This could easily become a sticky.

This is a good list. It also shows just how quickly the technology is changing. The SB series of lights received a good review in that review of lights earlier this year. Now, they look like an also rans in comparison to what is out currently.

Now for the nits to pick:

First, the price for the SB3 is kinda high. I've seen them for sale on ebay for $250, and someone purchased one from Colorado Cyclists(I think that's the name of the store) for $210 + shipping. Second, I think some of the high end single LED flashlights should be added to the list as well. An Fenix L2D running on turbo mode puts out 175lm(advertised), and with bike mount, batteries, and charger, could be had for under $100 for the package. Also, it might be nice to show whether they have a spot lens, a flood lens, or some combination.

Lupine Wilma now has 3 models the 4, 6 and 8 each giving 830 lumens

Runtimes are 2h 45, 4h and 5h 30 respectively. All 3 come with bar and helmet mount, car charger and padded transport case.

Can this database be updated? Nightlightning now has the iBlaast outfitted with 3 Cree Q5 LEDs (720 lumens) for US$190 and there is a new iBlaast II with 3 Cree R2 LEDs & tri-optics (40% brighter than the iBlaast! = 1008 lumens) for US$238. Also note Li-ion 2.2Ah 14.8V battery & fast smart charger is US$217 and Li-ion 4.4Ah 14.8V battery & fast smart charger for US$278. www.batteryspace.com has a Li-Ion Battery Pack: 14.8V 4.4Ah (65.12Wh, 2A rate) Battery with Smart Waterproof on-off switch with LED Indicator for $75 and smart charger for $29.95
Also missing are the Amoebas by Scar - http://classifieds.mtbr.com/showproduct.php?product=25611&cat=27

Solidlights is discontinuing their 1103. 1303 has already been discontinued.
http://solidlights.stumpie.com/buy/

For the best looking light with best bang for the buck are the iBlaast and iBlaast II.

Also MTBR needs to be made aware of the iBlaast so they can include it in their LED shootout.

dvasco, 1008 lumens from 3xR2 ? :ohgeez:
Be serious, the maximal current of the driver they are using is 1,2A, so about 300 lumens from R2 led - it means only 900 lumens... :nana:

I know this website celebrates the very best in lighting. Indeed, it seems like everyone enjoys watching the amazing march of progress with at least a fantasy eye toward owning the newest, lightest and brightest...

But...

Not all of us (read: yours truly) have the technical knowledge, skills or $$$ to choose the best. This is my way of saying you may be singing the death song a little too early on incandescent lighting. It's so simple (even I can do it) and bright. I just looked at an $89 MR16 LED that just wasn't remotely as bright as my $6 halogen. I realize the efficiency of halogen doesn't come close to LED's but, over volted, it can exceed HID (at the cost of bulb life, yes, but how many cheap lights do I have to burn up to match the cost of an HID?)

Bottom line though is this; though it may be hard for you geniuses (no sarcasm intended) to imagine, I really don't understand about ballast, and circuit board etching and I don't have a lathe and every time I solder something I have about a 50/50 chance of melting it! So, assuming I'm not the only hapless techNOincompetent who nevertheless likes this stuff (and reads all your builds and designs like adventure stories) there's probably always going to be an interest in building "what we can". In my case a Maglite head with a halogen inside, an on/off switch (didn't think about rain) and a battery connector. To me that's high-tech.

Take care.

Where did you get the info about the Dinottes?
I've just started to do a little research myself (in the hope that I'd be able to do some modding), and found that the 600L has Fraen tri-lens suitable for Luxeon K2s, and indeed, the most advanced version of the K2 is rated 200 lumens (min. @1A), this also explains why there is no upgrade available for the Dinottes (SSC P4 are at around 240 lumens now).
Btw. the Cygolite Trion uses exactly the same optics and numbers (600 lumens) so that must be having the Luxeon K2 as well...

I just saw your reply. I was still learning about this stuff when I posted that, and I still am. I had multiplied 240 lumensx3x1.4 due to statements on their website.
Cree Q5 LEDs 240 Lumens each @ 1000ma (iBlaast!)
iBlaast II fitted with latest Cree R2 LEDs. 40% brighter than the iBlaast!

http://www.nightlightning.co.nz/endurenz details.htm

They do state in an email I received from them "The iBlaast II has three Cree R2 LEDs with an output close to 1000 Lumens."
