    Default 2800°K 60 Lumen Cree XRE

    Received an interesting Warm White 2800°K XRE from Cree today.
    The phosphor looks Orange and under UV turns very RED.

    I wanted these to balance the 6000° XRE's for some multiple LED lights.

    I'm hoping one 2800° and two 6000° will give me better color rendition index for a 3-LED fixed lighting module.

    The bin was N3 which is ~60 Lumens @ 350ma, not bad for such a warm color bin.

    Warm white XR-E's typically have a more orange looking inside, I think because there's more phosphor inside. For better color balance I think it's better to use a red LED instead of the warm white. Rather use these warm white's for a home application. I am working on a project with 3000K warm white P4's

    Erasmus;

    I looked at Cree Red LED's to mix with 6000° K LEDs, but the RED LEDs have a couple of shortcomings.

    Red from Cree is available only in XL series.

    The RED is limited to 40 Lumens max output vs. 60 Lumens on the Warm White XRE I just received.

    The Thermal Resistance is higher at 15° vs 8° on the XRE. Rebel is also higher @ 12°.

    I'm not sure if Cree uses a different phosphor formulation for the warm white, or just a thicker coat of phosphor to shift the color temperature lower. Comparing warm white and cool white, it does indeed appear that the warm whites render reds better, but not dramatically so. I think best results might be obtained by mixing cool white, warm white, and a small percentage of red.

    Bob;

    I got them directly from Cree.

    They should be available at Cree distributors also.
