Thread: Where to get small li-polymers?

Default Where to get small li-polymers?

Hey guys, I just got this little RC helicopter that is pretty nifty that I got for really cheap. One terrible thing is that this thing gets less than one minute and then it is apparent that the battery is getting drained. I opened it up and there appears to be a 70mah 3.7V li-polymer battery in it and was wondering if anyone knew where to get higher capacity batteries that are really small, about the size of a quarter or so with higher capacities for cheap? Possibly under well under $5? Thank you guys. I don't think I can slap a huge battery on it though as I attached a Ni-Mh AAA to it just to see if it could possibly carry a 10440 but it wouldn't take off with the Ni-Mh AAA. It seemed like it almost could have taken off though.

Edit, just tried it taping a dime and a quarter to the heli to see if it could take off or not and apparently it could not take off with either. I am pretty sure it could take off with the dime though but the battery seems to be exhausted.

with those weight specs, about the only one i have seen would be the 2032 rechargable coin cell. and the metal alone around it would be to much weight already, and its capacity is some 25ma total :-( (at that load) http://www.batteryspace.com/index.as...OD&ProdID=2420

    here is the http://www.batteryspace.com/index.as...OD&ProdID=2419
2450, probably work to a real 50ma (at that load), comming in at a huge 5grams :-(

so you really gotta have a li-poly type with as little metal as possible
    http://www.batteryspace.com/index.as...OD&ProdID=1291
these guys even sell "custom" but that is a 3Gram one of some hefty juice for its size /weight but its a 1C discharge rate.

next up at that location is http://www.batteryspace.com/index.as...OD&ProdID=1253
10c discharge but no way is that going to work in weight 14grams

then on this page http://www.batteryspace.com/index.as...S&Category=872 (20 piece minumum) is a
    362030C

for the price of the first 3gram li-poly one, IF it will haul 3grams , i would try it, even at the higher discharge rate (way over its spec), but of course at your own risk. some stuff can be "trimmed" off of them without breeching the seal , you can see the heat seal line on the bag, and trim mabey another .1gram off it. again using common sence of insuring you dont unseal it, and at your own risk.

battery space links shown mostly to show you what is available, and cause they have fast specs, i am sure many RC stores carry this stuff too.

You need a high-discharge LiPo pack meant for RC models. Try eBay, there are plenty of spare parts for those tiny models.
Otherwise, you'd probably find better advice on www.rcgroups.com

is this a PicoZ 2 channel heli? you will need a lipo pack with high discharge current for them not the usual lipo battery.

No it's some cheap one that is similar to it. The thing actually is starting to malfunction now. Whenever I push the throttle lever up a decent amount and let go. The heli keeps on going up for like another few seconds and then drops back down. It's not really a lag as it doesn't always happen.

    Maybe IR interference?

That's what I thought as well and tried turning off all the lights and even placing the transmitter right next to the heli. Still acts up the same way. I really have no idea.

Did you try changing the batteries in your transmitter?

Yeah I tried that too, actually, I think I found out what was wrong. One of the wires to the IR sensor on the heli was loose I think, I tried resoldering it and seeing if it made a better connection. It now seems to work just fine but kind of goes out of control after about 10 seconds in the air.

It seems to wobble a lot too, don't know how to rebalance it though. The main propeller seems to be out of balance.

Head over to www.rcgroups.com and ask this in the micro heli forum. They'll probably know more about this than us.
