Hi,

Today while I was looking at these battery sleeves that convert AAA to AA, I got an idea. I made 2 simple AA dummy cells as pictured below:

I bought them from DX at $1.98 for 8 :twothumbs

Not wanting to solder, I first tried to insert the carbon rod inside but I couldn't get the connection (bad contact) and I ran out of the brass or copper rod so I had to do it this way. I wasn't sure if soldering would melt the plastic case, but I did it quick with good surface prep, then dip it in the alcohol to cool it down immediately. In fact, the first spot I didn't even have to cool it down in alcohol but no melt. Obviously the soldering has to be done on the outside, so I had to drill a small hole on the positive side but there is already a hole on the negative side. Oh, I was too lazy to walk and get water from the other room and the alcohol bottle happened to be within my reach. :D I checked them out and work fine. The 2 halves just pressed fit together, no glue.
