This is my very non-scientific testing/abuse of 1 of 10 Fenix T1's generously loaned by the folks at fenix-store.com. I will upload additional "tests"/photos every few days. To save me from the wrath of Sasha for using too much bandwidth, I am going to post all...

Over the past week the T1 has endured:
76 drops on a carpeted floor.
23 throws onto asphalt.
5 direct hits to a cement block.
6 throws to a tree.
Submerged 9 feet into a lake and left for 1 hour.
Ran over 3 times by a pickup.
Left in a freezer for 12 hours.
Having fireworks attached and blown up.
Being buried in sand, dirt, and mud.

...And this just the beginning. Lots more planned over the next few weeks. The only notable damage, other than several nicks to the exterior, is a problem with the switch. After several direct hits to a tree and cement block, the switch doesn't function correctly and it takes several clicks to turn off the light. However, this happened only after several direct impacts to the tailcap switch.

Edit: 12-31-07 PM

T1 frozen in block of ice and then placed into pot of boiling water.
Dropped 10 more times on carpet and linoleum.

Edit: 1-01-08

T1 dropped 10 more times.
T1 placed on a charcoal grill for 15 minutes, and continues to work.
***While I was eating my dinner, I decided to place the T1 back on the grill. I left her there for another 20 minutes, and when I returned I had killer her. Upon inspection, I noticed a tiny piece of moon shaped metal had melted off the board, which I am assuming had something to do with the failure. I figured the switch would also melt, but it hung in there; however, it beacame hard and would not depress. I had a number of other challenges (that I am sure the T1 would have survived), but I guess I got a little greedy and wanted to push it to the limits in the grill. I may try an solder the piece back onto the board to see if that will help. I will let you know if it works, but for now she will RIP!

wow, the T1's looking great! Seems like every T1 abuse test ends with the switch... but still, seems like Fenix has finally made a really rugged light.

Nice touch with the fireworks!

Yeah, that seems to be the weak link. Let us know when you finally manage to kill the light.

Nice tests. I'm still waiting for my sample T1 to arrive in the UK.

I was wondering, did you leave the battries in for the 12 hours in the freezer and the boiling water tests?

Considering it's shown being lit with hoarfrost still on it and even lit inside the boiling pot, I think we can safely assume that the batteries are in it :D

Yep, left em in for the 12 hours, but took them out when I froze it in a block of ice. Cold doesn't seem as bad as heat.:)

Hi Chabato,
This is my 100th post and I was going to save it for my own T1 abuse posting but I've just seen the BBQ video and simply have to say I like my meat rare but your well done T1 is fantastic!! Also loved the freezer-boiling kettle test.
One problem you might encounter in further heat tests (especially if you persist with the BBQ) is that the + battery terminal melts off the printed circuit board. I discovered that when soldering to it during some driver board testing (to be detailed in my report).
My own tests are being delayed by ongoing wet weather - you'll see why when I finally get them completed and posted....Now if you can just toss another shrimp on the BBQ...thanks and happy new year.
