    Default P91 just saved me!!

I was delivering some medicine to a local record producer, his studio was out back of his home.

I was approaching from what I later learned to be the "wrong way"

I heard a growl, and was charged by a pit bull dog.

The light was in my hand, so I beamed the dog. He stopped in his tracks!

It gave me enough time to back to the limit of his chain.

Glad I had a flashlight. How's that for real world usage?

    I'm still shaken quite abit.
This was just a few minutes ago, I seems funny the first thought I had after the adrenaline died down was,

There are reasons that many of us carry these lights. My wife thinks I am crazy and that "a flashlight is a flashlight" and nothing to get excited about. This is another good example of how these lights can be a great benefit when owned, carried, and used responsibly.

    I'm glad you aren't harmed.

At least you now know not to go in that way.

Another reason to have a light with you at all times.

Now that ought to wake you up. I was attacked by two chows when i was 9. That sucked had to go to the hospital stitches, and some other stuff. Well let's say it worked in my favor. It went to court because the dogs weren't on leashes. It was down by the dock by the way and that money helped for college.

But glad to hear your ok.

Good one! I directed a number of Q5 beams at our dog this morning with no effect whatsoever. It was only after a blast from the MN16 on fresh cells that she turned her head.

Wow, glad that light worked for you.
I have to add though that I shined both my L4 and G2L, at a range of less than 2 feet, at a terrier standard poodle mix that just moved to my neighborhood and tried to come through my back door. No effect whatsoever. Luckily he was only a very excited dog that turned out to not be dangerously aggressive. He got tired after 5 or so minutes of being fended off with a stick I got a leash on him ant took him home.

It stopped this dog cold for just about 1 second, I saw his eyes squint and his brakes turn on.

But, that was it, he continued forward.

Luckily, I just had to back up about 3 steps to get clear.

Thank god for chains as well!!

I have a scar on my right shoulder from a dog bite i had as a kid. My dad went out to walk our dog, and i went to look for him. I passed the neighbour walking his dog, and stopped to pat the dog,a terrier of some kind (those sufficiantly big to be dangerous for a kid), i bent down and eviedently the dog didnt like me much.

the really bad part is i went to a doctor, he said it will be fine, just bandage it up, and put the cream he gave me....

second opinion much later after it started to itch, and i think it was borederline infection, ended with me much later in the hospital with 7 stiches and i think 4 underneath...

And if that doesn't work, you can always bludgeon the dog with a Mag 6D.

You lucked out. I was the object of an overly friendly labrador one night walking with my wife. He charged my wife and I stepped in between my wife and the dog. I hit him with the beam of my turboheaded 9P the final 5 meters of his charge. The first thing he did was lick my flashlight!!!

By the time his owners got him under control I was covered with mud and dog slobber.

    Send your story to Surefire.

I'm happy you didn't get hurt.

    Shine on...

Yeah, but sometimes it can be hard to tell if the dog is being friendly or aggressive.

Years ago, heck I was still in my teens, so it was many years ago I was hunting rabbits on a relatives farm. I had just entered their wood lot when I was charged by the neighbor's aggressive dog. The dog charged from about 30 feet away, ears back and snarling. I swung my old Ithaca pump gun on the dog and said or perhaps just thought "come on you sob" when the dog yelped, turned 180 degrees in mid air and ran off yelping. I continued tracking and leading the dog until he was out of sight, but never touched the trigger. To this day, I'm still uncertain whether the dog had been shot before or he just read my mind. I favor the view that animals sense and/or recognize aggression.

Dogs are hard to read sometimes. I'm a cat person.
My personal experience says that the best last ditch or reflex reaction to a dog attack is to get your foot and leg up a bit to kick it away. Legs are longer and stronger than arms plus shoes/ boots cover up as good as anything else we normally wear.
Glad to hear you got out of harm's way.

OT but my first thought reading the post was when seeing record producer, associating Holywood and "medicine." What exactly is it you deliver?

I'm glad that it worked and that it bought you some time. I've had dogs not even flinch from being ROP'd before and I had to bear spray it...a big Rottie.

I thought that I was going to have to do it again a couple of weeks ago at a residence. The owner said it was safe to go in their backyard. I go back there with my brother and a 125 lbs-ish pound Rottie came after us. I only had my medium Pepper Defender and 4" blade. I yelled at it really loud and did my best intimidating posture and it stopped. I then pointed back where it came from and with the angry voice, as if it were in trouble, told it to get back on the patio. It went back far enough for my bro and I to get out of the yard...geesh. I would have hated to spray or stick that dog all because the owner was stupid. I've always had a short fuse with aggressive dogs because of my newspaper route days and having to battle it out with them on cold dark mornings while on bicycle. BTW, I'm a dog lover but have no patience with undisciplined dogs or their owners.

One plus!! Good reaction that you took 3 steps back just in time.
I remember when I was bitten by a chained dog once. Didn't know where it was coming. I learned that a biting dogs don't bark!!
    Lights on!!!

    Simply some antibiotics.

He is probably the ONLY record producer in our entire town.

That's awesome I was in my local Lowes store and one of the stockers saw a 6p led and was commenting on the price asking why anyone would pay that much for a flashlight. I then showed him my L$ and told him the price and that I carry it because I need a light I can count on no matter what. Just more proof a quality bright light is a tool everyone needs.

I read in a post somewhere around here that many animals including dogs are not effect by the light emitted from an LED, they mentioned that incans on the other hand are very effective.

Anyone know if this is true?

It seems to depend on the animal. On some dogs, my P2D on high will turn their heads, but some will blindly stare at my T-1 on high. Most animals I am around react the same to an incan.

Yepp, seems to be depending on the animal, not the light source. Are a couple of examples of incans used in this thread that didn't have any effect.

Great thread though, funny stories, and I'm glad that everything went well with Dr. K.
