Questions about cars in asia (china)

I'm looking into relocating into china, around but not in Hong Kong, and was wondering about the details of automobiles. How much is a new entry level car? One of the 'normal' ones for there that's very small and gets 50 mpg or better. How much is a used car? What kind of gas prices can I expect?

I've seen some crash tests of chinese cars, and they are hair-rising. You very definitely don't want a cheap chinese car. Get something european if at all possible, if China imports them.
