Computer firewalls could be outlawed

Don't know how seriously to take THIS ARTICLE but legislative action in Texas, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alaska, Tennessee and Colorado could outlaw the use of network firewalls.

IMO, that seems a bit alarmist. Don't forget, the firewall itself has a readily identifiable IP address.

It is almost certainly the case that eliminating basic network security tools is not the goal of the legislators that have put these bills forward, although it make be the goal of some who are promoting the bills (think music corporations who what to prevent so called piracy). Writing a law is like writing a computer program with insufficient specification on an unknown operating system; you always have to squash bugs to get it almost right.
