Occasionally, one gets to make a light without much direction from the customer, other than, "Hey, I've got a piece of Ti, can you make a light out of it?"

Well, yes, we can make a small light out of it, so we swapped some nice Starrett tools from the customer, along with his piece of Ti, in exchange for this:

It's a RCR123 light, with a NG750 converter, Khatod smooth 17mm reflector, 2mm thick mineral lens, and O-rings.

A little consultation with the customer revealed that he was willing to forego any lanyard attachment device, so I make a concave indentation in the tail. Just had to use this technique somewhere.

The finish is matte due to polishing the surface down to 8 micron with silicon carbide sandpaper. It is the last step before polishing, so the customer can keep it as is, or very easily polish it himself.

We'll see how lazy/ambitious he is, should he decide to post here later. :D

Fred, I bought 10 feet of Titanium that could use some machine work! :poke: I know, I KNOW! Then set up my Lathe and do it myself. :ohgeez: But you do such great work? HEHE! :duck:

Seriously, the light is BEAUTIFUL! :twothumbs Those tappered tear drops must take quite a bit of time but I like the look.

Tim, it will take me a long time to catch up with Fred.

The finish is cool. Looks similiar to a light bead blast and the brighter finish of the metal in the grooves adds a wonderful accent!

Ken,

I'm sure that we could arrange something. Ti paperweights are so passe, especially when they are 10' long.

Send me a piece and some drawings and a blank check--I'll do my best. :D:D

After a couple day of use heres some observations:
The threads are smooth like butter.
Finnish of the Ti is perfect
Brilliant output from the emitter and reflector
One of my easiest turning Ti lights

Score 10 of 10

Exactly - just trying to catch up some :D

These are older threads, but your workmanship was superb, so I "had" to post. Maybe one of these days I will be doing stuff half as decent as yours

Will,

I wish I could do electronics half as well as you.

I'm also sure that once your lathe is all set up, you won't have any problem turning out very niece pieces. Your attention to detail is a sure sign of success, imo.
