Default Tk10 review (yes another one) +Updated with comaprison to M60+SFC2 07/04/08

Got home, it was there in my mailbox...hurray!
This light is available from www.fenix-store.com

or more specifically, here..comes with free batteries too!

I dont have a digital camera at my disposal at the moment, so pictures will follow soon...

    EDIT: 30/4
contrary to my earlier findings, the Malkoff actually has more spill, but the Tk10 spill is far more defined. The malkoff's spill blends out very nicely, much like one would see in a novatac. The Tk10's spill it brighter, but much smaller then the Malkoffs....

    My observations...

The difference between the T1 and the Tk10:

    - The Tk10 is slightly shorter, only just slightly.
    - Tactical Grip Ring on the Tk10 to facilitate "cigar" or rogers/surefire technique
    - Tk10 comes stock with a black tail boot AND an orange one.
    - Tk10 clip is removable, via two screws as you know by now, but the T1 clip is only removable if you can remove the head which not everyone can do.
-The tail Prongs on the Tk10 are smaller, lower down, and there are four of them, while on the T1 they are higher, and only 3 of them. This helps with the tactical aspect
-The Head of the Tk10 does not feature the same Stainless Steel Bezel.
-Placed equally, the base of the tail to the tip of the rubber boot, the tail of the Tk10 is a hair longer then the T1.
-The knurling is closer to what one would expect to see on a surefure, if you want a close approximation, look at an ARC-AAA model, closest i can find.
-The Anodizing is slightly paler on my Tk10 then my T1, although this might just be an anodizing lottery.

I am no LEO, nor am I a Low-Light Tactics Instructor, but i do have a model gun....( guns are illegal unless youre a LEO here)..so..go figure, im a mall ninja...and i have studied extensively the combat grip manual for the rogers/surefire technique that came with my G2Z..

General Observations when paired with my Scale model Beretta () in combat grip..

    AHEM...

    - The Tk10 is head heavy, so that if youre not gripping hard enough, it will move slightly.
    - my one problem with the Tk10, is that the combat grip ring is abit smaller then is comfortable. As in, the diameter of the ring, although adequet, could be slightly larger, and give an even better grip then it does now. This is easily remedied by adding a rubber gasket or something, but just an observation.

    General Observations, in general..

    -its bright..
-its seems even warmer then my T1 (i didnt know that was possible)
-The orange ring thing goes well with the orange tailcap
-There are two places you can hook a lanyard onto.. one is the lanyard hole in the combat-grip ring, the other is in the tail prong, like in the T1.
-The Clip is also a bit too flat to be easy to use, but i dont plan on using the clip anyway...its still usable, and the high profile clip on the T1 was a complaint.

    pictures to follow...

preliminary pictures...for size comparison, this is from my phone..

Here are the photos...most credit goes to my buddy, Jason, who you can find on the flashaholic facebook group, cos it was his camera, although i took most of the photos here, he set the exposure, ISO, etc all up... im hopeless at nikons at the moment.im an EOS guy for now. We got out the big studio flashes with thier diffussion umbrellas and everything.

    the box

    family photo

Due to a few questions on the lights in this picture, ill label them left to right..

    1. Jetbeam-u (under the name AIII tactical, dont ask me why)
2.Copper AA Minimag cut down to 1 x AA
    3.LOD
4.Arc-LS AA body (the arc LS is self is hidden behind it, you can see the edge)
5.Longbow Mini (belongs to Jason actually)
    6.NDI
    7. Ultrafire C3 SS
8.Arc-P DS with Tritium from dx
    9.Tk10
    10.P1D-CE Q5 with leef body.
    11. MTE C3 Rebel 0100
    12.T1
    13.Rominson G2-C3
    14.surefire L1 cree
    15.Tiablo A9 (far back)
    16.Inova X5
    17.Safelight
    18. Surefire G2Z

    overal picture

    closer detail

    compared to its older brother

Alt configurationg, the clip is at the back..

    the knurling

    the knurling on a T1

    knurling on an ARC-AAA

    Kurling on a surefire L1

as you can see, the knurling closely resembles the ARC-AAA's knurling. both have peaks like surefire's, but surefire's is more squarish

for size comparison..next to my model-beretta

I know some of you wont get the Tk10 in your hands for awhile yet..so here is a 3d (somewhat) picture of it. its a stereogram.

    **Update 07/04/08**

Comparison to the Surefire C2 with Malkoff M60 HOLA
*this is my crappy cellphone cam, if i get to go to my friend's place again anytime soon, ill update the pictures..

    Lighted with my L1

    side by side

malkoff is on the left side
As you can see,The malkoff has a brighter hotspot.

Spill shots, cant compare output here, nor tint, just how the whole beam looks.

    Malkoff

    Tk10

note thats not an artifect, just spotch on my ceiling

and YES i have stars on my room ceiling, in the shape of my starsign

the Tk10 has ALOT more spill then the malkoff. ALOT. The pictures closely resemble what i am seeing with my eyes.

I am guessing the extra spill comes from the slightly less bright hotspot of the Tk10..

    note on egronomics..

the grip of the C2 allows for your fingers to extend further away from the base of your palm, it allows surer grip, although the Tk10 is by no means lacking in grip.

    Tk10

As you can see, i am in need of a proper camera, more specifically a DSLR, so if anyone feels like donating me one..

    (hopefully) enjoy the pictures..

Crenshaw, post some pictures with a HAND holding it!

Nobody did that... and I think it´s a good way to compare it´s size.

Only Ernsanada do that, in his reviews... (thanks Ernie!)

erm I got it at some kinda of DIY electronics store, but im sure they should have something like that in almost any hardware/DIY store. Its basically a flat oring..as in, if you look at cross section, its not a circle, its a square.Ill add more pictures of it when i get round to taking pictures.

with all the concern over kurling, its great to see pics of it

interesting, the kurling on the SF looks a bit irregular. that's actually amusing to me - what seems to be lack of precision doubtlessly helps with grip.
