Ok, here I begin
I've been always fascinated by night vision devices since I was a child (even before liking flashlights) but I've never been able to buy one.
Once I tried (i was 11 maybe, I don't remember anymore) a cheap Russian gen 1 handheld monocular but the quality was really crappy, besides you needed the IR illuminator to see. Then, many years later, I began to see online images of gen 2 (and gen 2+) and gen 3 devices, but the prices were too high and, the most scary thing, I discovered that the only ones that looked fine and didn't stress the eye (the gen 3) were prohibited to Italian civilians , so even if I saved some money I couldn't buy them
As today there are xd4 and 5 but gen 3 are still restricted to military in Italy, and now I'm also in love with thermal visors but still![]()
Welcome. I've been reading your posts at AR15.com for several years now. Very informative. I always make sure to listen to what you and Victor have to say.
I have two pieces of NV gear. A D740 and a PVS-14. Both have Gen 3 Hand Select tubes (pretty good specs), and both bought from Michael @ OpticsHQ. He's a very good guy imo.
Looking forward to having you here and reading your posts.![]()
this looks like a place to get a good nv forum going...

Go Army!
I wish the NV forum was more active here. It's a pretty specialized subject but as an optics nut, I do enjoy learning as much as I can keep up with on the subject.
IPSC_GUY, do you shoot many matches? Do you shoot locally or do you shoot national events too?
