Freeplay self powered/solar powered radios and flashlights are quite durable and are primarily designed for use among third world populations and in emergency relief but available to developed nations as well. Their lineage traces back to
Trevor Baylis the founder of
Freeplay Energy who in 1991 invented the original Baygen wind-up radio thereby creating the product category. I've owned several Baygen products and every wind-up radio or flashlight I've seen since is a piece of junk by comparison.
