    Default The 007 beam

The Spy-007 is the first and only high-end light I’m aware of that has elicited zero comments about the light’s beam. Some of you lucky 007 owners must also have an upgraded 005 and a white wall. Someone please write a sentence or two about how the beams compare. Many thanks.

There have been a few comments, they just got buried in various threads.

Pretty much, the beam is the most perfect I've seen so far. Thanks in no small part to Don's awesome reflectors and Dave's perfect pick of emitter and alignment.

I don't have the 005, but here's a beam shot I took comparing to other beams.

From left to right. Orb Raw NS, SPY 007, McGizmo PD-S

All at their highest levels. The Raw NS has a WC Q5 Cree in it and is slightly brighter than the SPY 007. They have about the same amount of throw. The Seoul P4 in my SPY 007 has THE most neutral white tint I've ever seen. Definitely a white wall hunter pleaser.

I expect the 007 is the same as the 005 beam? Although I guess there were several 005 configurations.

Aren't the 007's LED and the reflector both different from the 005?
That's why Id like a sentence or two comparing the beams, not being lucky enough to score a 007 (or two!) yet.

The 007 uses the same McR-18 reflector as the later Seoul 005's did. The Cree 005's were very different and I have not offered a Cree version of the 007.

The only thing I do different than others who use the McR-18 series reflector with a Seoul P4 is, I cut the Lux3 version of the reflector to fit into the Seoul. This gives perfect alignment every time. Please note that Don does this with some of his other reflectors but has not up to this point offered such a reflector. It is however of little consequence to me as I can whip through them quickly on my mill.

Edwood's beam shot is a very realistic representation of the actual beam.

    Cheers

Ah, you cut the reflector yourself? That would explain the absolute perfect beam.

I'm really starting to prefer the Seoul P4 over the Cree. While the Cree has more throw and is brighter if driven equally, the Beam and tint of the Seoul is just much nicer.

    Although I don't have a 007 (yet!! ), I have a couple lights (including a SPY005) with a McR-18, and it's my favorite reflector for EDC.

Compact in size, yet a super useful beam - not too punchy, but not too soft. Just right.

Thanks for the clarification Data, and for the beamshot Edwood. Now I have a better idea of what I'm drooling for.
