I've read up on this mod and have decided I want to build a Mag85. It would be nice to get all the parts from the same place though. So my question is does anyone offer a Mag85 kit? Thanks.

I don't know if anyone offer a Mag85 Kit but you can still have a look in B/S/T section and look for someone that want to sell his own mah85....good luck

I went through the very same thing. I don't believe there is a "one stop shop" but it's not that bad, really.

But if you want to cheat and just buy one, there's always mine. Click HERE. (shameless plug!)

Thanks, but I'm really looking forward to putting it together myself. I was just hoping to get all the parts in a kit or at least from one source.

It's kind of hard to get them all at one source, but someone like FiveMega or one of us who built up a collection (including parts) is your best bet.

Let's see if I can at least give you a list:

  • Maglite (size depends on battery source)
  • 1185 bulbs
  • Bulb holder (either get a Fivemega bipin bulb holder, or look into KIU setup, or AW's multi-level output driver/bulb holder/switch)
  • 52mm glass lens - Borofloat or UCL
  • Metal reflector (can be many variables such as cam/camless, standard 2" wide/3"/Deep, bulb bore size, reflector surface coating--mirror=throw; heavy texture=flood)
  • Battery holder (again depends on intended setup)
  • Batteries

Hi, there is a thread somewhere that tells you where to get the different parts needed to build your own M@g85. I'll try to find it for you and if I do, I'll post the link here.

haven't found it yet, but let me tell you about my M@g85 set up:

-batteries: 3x Li-ion (protected) AW cells those
-In case you use a 3D as a host you'll need a pvc water hose to prevent the side to side rattle of the batteries.
-A Kiu socket, or
-An AW Mag C or D Incan Driver - Soft Start & Multi-Brightness would be really nice (you won't need to buy a Kiu socket since this driver has one in it). I like this feature of my M@g85 most. (AW sells them)
-Dual Function Removable Cam Reflector for M*g "C" & "D" e.g. FiveMega sells them.
-a boro lens (the standard plastic lens will melt)
-reduce the tailcap resitance (subject is in the link below)
-of course a 1185 Welch Allyn bulb. Don't know who sells them at the moment.
-In case you want to use Li-Ion cells, you'll have to buy a smart charger (AW sells them)

this thread is also helpfull (read the links in it too):

I'll help you adding some liks and notes:

-batteries: 3x Li-ion (protected) AW cells those, you can also use a NiMh battery pack: LUXLUTHOR make them on order or buy a battery holder and batteries separately or eaven buy "D" li ion without any adapter...
-In case you use a 3D as a host you'll need a pvc water hose to prevent the side to side rattle of the batteries.
-A Kiu socket, FiveMega bi-pin to PR base adapter, or
-An AW Mag C or D Incan Driver - Soft Start & Multi-Brightness would be really nice (you won't need to buy a Kiu socket since this driver has one in it). I like this feature of my M@g85 most. (AW sells them)
-Dual Function Removable Cam Reflector for M*g "C" & "D" e.g. FiveMega USED to sell them....now you can buy LITHO123 reflectros or KD's ones...
-a boro lens (the standard plastic lens will melt) (they are sold by Fivemega and KD)
-reduce the tailcap resitance (subject is in the link below)
-of course a 1185 Welch Allyn bulb. Don't know who sells them at the moment. (litho 123 sells them and fivemega too)
-In case you want to use Li-Ion cells, you'll have to buy a smart charger (AW sells them)
-both, li-ion and nimh charger are sold here
