For the "Hoople" head you made for me, can I also run it on a 2x CR123A body? Or will the voltage be too high? Thanks!

HH, the Hoople should be fine on 2x123 primaries.

One quick question for when you get time; on the label it mentions "Theater UI" as well as "Locator". I'm already familiar with the other terms (ie. Memory/Tactical/Strobe/Miser). What exactly is the "Theater UI"? I assume the 20 tap sequence from the 'Gotham Acorn Post' above switches between Memory and Tactical, but not sure about Theater or even what it is.

BiB, Theater UI is in many ways an anti-tactical UI: rather than always starting at full power and moving downward from there, Theater UI always starts at ultralow and moves upward from there. It ensures that you can use your light to read a ticket in a theater, for example, without unnecessarily disturbing those around you. It's accessible via the same 20-tap gesture that switches between memory and tactical user interfaces... now each 20-tap sequence changes from memory to tactical, then from tactical to theater, then from thester back to memory. The important thing to remember is, 20 taps switches to a different user interface and goes in a big loop among all of them, one at a time. Hope that actually explained matters, and didn't serve only to confuse things further!

No it makes sense Scott, thanks for explaining. Only one thing I'm still confused on: Say I'm in Memory UI and want to go to Theater UI, that should be 40 taps in total. So why wouldn't that just activate the 'Mizer' mode instead? Or is what you're saying that I should do 20 taps, wait, then do 20 addt'l taps, rather than do all 40 in a row?

The latter in your description... do 20 taps to switch UI... then as a SEPARATE gesture, do another 20 taps to switch UI again. You can't stack the gestures; each needs to be a separate sequence.

Hey Milky ive tried PM'ing you about 10 times throughout the last 2 weeks but your box is full so I emailed you about a week ago and hadnt heard back so heres my question Just would like to have you mod a Surefire E1E for me and I also have one of the original KL1 heads if you think that would be better suited. I want about 3+ hour runtime at full blast. And im looking to get as bright as possible with a really floody beam and a little throw. Im not very knowledgable about LED bins and such so thatd be up to your discression! When you get a chance please PM or email me to let me know how much it would cost and where id send it and such! Yes I googled. Optics planet came up but I emailed them and they don't know if what they have in stock matches the picture they have on their product page, and for some reason, they can't check. Doesn't sound like know thier inventory one way or the other.....

They probably don't have it in inventory. They probably order it to fill your order, from either a jobber (wholesaler) or direct from SF. They may even be able to have it drop-shipped to you, without ever touching it. Look at their website. They list thousands of items. I'd be surprised if they inventory all of them.

First of all, I've got lots of new eye candy to post, but no time to crop and upload the photos! Much less post threads about several of the builds as I'd really like to do. I'll get some posted here at least, when I have some free moments. (Anyone know where one might get an assistant to help with this sort of thing?)


As for the new SureFire lineup: I agree, some of those new host designs look nice. That said, if the specs relative to some known older SureFire models act as a guide, there's still plenty of room to improve on them. (Note that I'm NOT saying they're bad! I like SureFire... one of the reasons I tend to do so many builds in their hosts.)

Had an idea on trying something new... for the first couple new SureFire models people send me that I can keep (in like new condition), I'll credit your cost for the light against your build(s). I can't keep doing this and need at least to cover parts and materials, so there's a limit to how far this can go. However, it does seem like a fun way for me to get acquainted firsthand with the new lights, and a way for a customer to buy something and try it firsthand, then pass it along with no financial loss from the transaction. Not sure it's a good idea or not, mainly just a spur of the moment idea... but hey, it could be fun!

Jay, I have a copy of the 2009 Illumination Tools catalog... you can get one directly from the SureFire website, or downlaod my copy from over here.

As far as the new models, generally the ones in the "New For 2009" section toward the front of the catalog.

Regarding your M3, I could certainly do the M248 build for you using Lux1 emitters and you'd have a beautiful beam pattern with nice tint. That said, these days there are also other choices of emitters that would give you a brighter light for the same runtime, or a markedly longer-running light with the same 248 lumens (give or take) overall output. As far as price, that can vary a little based on specifics and the various options we might choose, but in general ought to end up somewhere in the $175-245 ballpark, with you supplying the M3 itself for the upgrade.

I'd suggest sending me an email with "CPF" and your username somewhere in the subject line if this works for you, and we can nail down the specifics. Hope this helps!
